No, that\u2019s not a new Surface product. It\u2019s the HP 11-inch Tablet, a versatile Windows 11 device with a pop-up camera. Launching this December, the HP 11-Inch Tablet<\/a> (that\u2019s really its name) looks like a compelling alternative to Microsoft\u2019s Surface Go, although it falls short in a few areas.<\/p>\n

The HP 11-inch Tablet features a detachable keyboard, a built-in kickstand, a USB-C port for charging, a fingerprint sensor, and a microSD slot. Its detachable keyboard works in landscape or portrait orientations, an interesting option considering Windows 11\u2019s ability to run Android app<\/a>s (a feature that\u2019s delayed until 2022).<\/p>\n

And then there\u2019s the pop-up camera. It packs an impressively large 13MP sensor and, like the pop-up cameras in some smartphones, works in front-facing or rear-facing modes. I expect this camera to produce higher-quality video than the average tablet or laptop lens, but I don\u2019t really understand why it\u2019s mounted on the device\u2019s side. (When in landscape mode, the lens will be offset to the left side of your face, and it may be too high up in portrait mode.)<\/p>\n

The 11-inch Tablet\u2019s specs are also a bit modest. It\u2019s powered by an Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processor, with just 4GB of RAM and 128GB of NVMe storage. As a result, it runs Windows 11 in S mode. It\u2019s also less powerful than the rumored Surface Go 3, which we expect to run an Intel Core CPU in its maximum configuration.<\/p>\n

HP overlooked some other small features here, like LTE support and Windows Hello. But to be fair, the average buyer probably doesn\u2019t need LTE, and Windows Hello would be a bit awkward with a pop-up camera (plus, the fingerprint sensor should get the job done).<\/p>\n

The HP 11-inch Tablet goes on sale this December for $499. But most people will end up paying $599 to get the detachable keyboard \u2026 so let\u2019s just call it $599. By the way, HP has also announced a powerful new all-in-one PC and a 2-in-1 laptop.<\/p>\n
