{"id":343715,"date":"2021-09-23T17:19:25","date_gmt":"2021-09-23T14:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/apple-would-have-to-redesign-iphone-under-proposed-eu-rule\/"},"modified":"2021-09-23T17:19:25","modified_gmt":"2021-09-23T14:19:25","slug":"apple-would-have-to-redesign-iphone-under-proposed-eu-rule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/apple-would-have-to-redesign-iphone-under-proposed-eu-rule\/","title":{"rendered":"#Apple would have to redesign iPhone under proposed EU rule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le would have to redesign iPhone under proposed EU rule<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>Apple\u2019s current slate of iPhones would be illegal to sell in the European Union under a new proposed rule requiring smartphones and electronics to come with standardized charging ports. <\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_21_4613\">EU edict, proposed Thursday<\/a>, would require all devices sold in the bloc to have USB-C ports, which are already used for many Android and other smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>The EU said the proposal was designed to cut down on electronic waste and prevent consumers from wasting money on chargers that do not work with all their devices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Apple installs Lightning connectors in iPhones rather than USB-C ports. Lightning connectors were developed by Apple and are proprietary to the company whereas the USB ports are common on other brands\u2019 phones.<\/p>\n<p>The EU rule must be approved by the European Parliament in order to take effect. Smartphone makers would then have two years to adapt to the new rules, so they would not take effect until at least late 2023 at the earliest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEuropean consumers were frustrated long enough about incompatible chargers piling up in their drawers,\u201d said Margrethe\u00a0Vestager, European Commission executive vice president. \u201cWe gave industry plenty of time to come up with their own solutions, now time is ripe for legislative action for a common charger.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to The Post, Apple blasted the potential rule change.<br \/><strong><br \/><\/strong>\u201cWe remain concerned that strict regulation mandating just one type of connector stifles innovation rather than encouraging it, which in turn will harm consumers in Europe and around the world,\u201d the company said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Half the chargers sold with mobile phones in Europe in 2018 had a USB micro-B connector, while 29 percent featured a USB-C connector and 21 percent had a Lightning connector, according to an EU study <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/media-telecom\/eu-plans-one-mobile-charging-port-all-setback-apple-2021-09-23\/\">reported by Reuters<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/apple-chargers-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"The European Union said the proposal was designed to cut down on electronic waste.\" class=\"wp-image-19552622\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/apple-chargers-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/apple-chargers-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/apple-chargers-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The European Union said the proposal was designed to cut down on electronic waste.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Alamy Stock Photo<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Beyond phones, the legislation proposed Thursday would also apply to chargers for tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld gaming devices.
