Opportunistic, predatory human beings claiming to be \u2018psychics\u2019 have taken their scams to TikTok in order to exploit the tragic murder of Gabby Petito. And the algorithm\u2019s giving them a boost.<\/p>\n

Up front:<\/strong> 22-year old Gabby Petito, a travel<\/a> influencer, recently went missing. Their case reached the public spotlight due to scrutiny over another person\u2019s involvement and is currently an ongoing homicide investigation.<\/p>\n

As is usually the case in high-profile homicide investigations, so-called \u2018psychics\u2019 have come out of the woodwork to try and capitalize on human trauma and make a few bucks peddling their millennia-old scam.<\/p>\n

In the modern era that means they\u2019re all over social media<\/a> hawking their horrific schemes. And, on TikTok at least, they\u2019re getting a boost from the algorithm.<\/p>\n

As of the time of this article\u2019s publishing, typing the words \u201cmedium\u201d (an alternate term for psychic) or \u201cpsychic\u201d into the app<\/a>\u2019s search window brings up auto-completed recommendations for Gabby Petito.<\/p>\n
