Now thanks to Separation Alerts, introduced alongside other new features in iOS 15, you may never leave your iPad or any other prized possessions behind again.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Are_Separation_Alerts\"><\/span>What Are Separation Alerts?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Separation Alerts are exactly what they sound like. Once you\u2019ve enabled the alerts for a device, your iPhone will let you know if you leave it behind. This way, you don\u2019t have to worry about getting home from work only to realize you left your iPad at the office.<\/p>\n<p>Separation Alerts aren\u2019t just for your Apple devices either. Thanks to Apple\u2019s AirTags, you can use this handy new feature to make sure you don\u2019t lose any of your valuable belongings.<\/p>\n<p>It makes sense that you\u2019ll find Separation Alerts baked into the Find My app, as these alerts are an extension of that app\u2019s functionality. While it doesn\u2019t use Apple\u2019s Find My Network, it still has the goal of preventing you from losing your device.<\/p>\n<p>You can use Separation Alerts with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS or iPadOS 15 or later. You can also use them with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Apple-MX542AM-A-AirTag-Pack\/dp\/B0932QJ2JZ?tag=hotoge-20\">AirTags<\/a>, as well as both the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Apple-MWP22AM-A-AirPods-Pro\/dp\/B07ZPC9QD4\/?tag=hotoge-20\">AirPods Pro<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/New-Apple-AirPods-Max-Space\/dp\/B08PZHYWJS\/?tag=hotoge-20\">AirPods Max<\/a>. As long as you\u2019re signed in to them with the same iCloud account you use on your phone, you should see them automatically.<\/p>\n<p>The steps are similar with Apple AirTags as well, assuming you\u2019ve already set them up. If you haven\u2019t, take a look at our guide to setting up and pairing AirTags with your iPhone. Once these are set up with your iCloud account, you can use them with Separation Alerts following the steps below.<\/p>\n<p>Open the Find My app, then select Devices at the bottom of the screen if you\u2019re enabling notifications for an iPad or iPod Touch. Scroll down to Notifications and tap Notify When Left Behind. This isn\u2019t the only way you can customize when and where you receive Separation Alerts.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Add_Trusted_Locations_to_Separation_Alerts\"><\/span>How to Add Trusted Locations to Separation Alerts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While Separation Alerts will automatically exclude your Home location (assuming it\u2019s set) when you create them, this isn\u2019t the only place you may not want alerts. For example, if you regularly bring your iPad to your workplace, you probably don\u2019t need to be reminded every time you leave it on your desk.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-756897 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/how-to-enable-separation-alerts-notify-me-except-at.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"List of Trusted Locations that won't trigger Separation Alerts\" width=\"650\" height=\"386\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, you can customize these Trusted Locations, as Apple calls them. You can add as many of these locations as you need to as well, so you\u2019re not limited to a single trusted location.<\/p>\n<p>In the \u201cNotify When Left Behind\u201d settings for a given item or device in the Find My app, scroll down until you see Notify Me, Except At and tap \u201cNew Location.\u201d Enter the address for the new Trusted Location you wish to add.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll be presented with two options. This shouldn\u2019t be much of a problem for many people, as we\u2019ve learned to keep our phones with us.
