There are two ways to remove emails from Gmail: \u201cArchive\u201d and \u201cDelete.\u201d When you delete an email, it gets sent to the \u201cTrash,\u201d which is where it stays for 30 days. You can also empty it sooner to immedia<\/a>tely free up space.<\/p>\n

While an \u201cArchived\u201d email is not actually removed, \u201cDeleted\u201d emails do eventually disapp<\/a>ear forever. Gmail keeps them in the \u201cTrash\u201d for 30 days just in case you change your mind. After that, they\u2019re gone forever, but you can speed up the process if you want.<\/p>\n

To empty the trash, you\u2019ll need to open Gmail<\/a> in a desktop browser or on your iPhone<\/a>, iPad<\/a>, or Android<\/a> device. Use the \u201chamburger\u201d menu button\u00a0at the top-left corner of the screen to expand the menu\u2014if it\u2019s not already expanded\u2014and select \u201cTrash.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the top of the screen, you\u2019ll see a message explaining that trash is deleted after 30 days. Select \u201cEmpty Trash Now\u201d to do it now.<\/p>\n
