Google\u2019s Family Link service is incredibly useful for parents. We\u2019ll show you why you should be using it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_Family_Link\"><\/span>What Is Family Link?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Before we explain why you should use Family Link, let\u2019s talk a little about what it actually is. At the core, Family Link is a suite of tools for parents to help them monitor their kids\u2019 devices.<\/p>\n<p>You create a family on your Google account and invite all parents and kids to join. Once a child\u2019s Google account has been added to Family Link, you can start monitoring and controlling their activity remotely. It\u2019s basically a hub to see what your kids are up to.<\/p>\n<p>One important aspect of Family Link is privacy. Obviously, you are prying into your kids\u2019 lives a little bit with Family Link, but it\u2019s all very transparent. Your child is alerted when you make a change to their device.<\/p>\n<p>Family Link is available for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/google-family-link-for-parents\/id1150085200\">iPhone<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/google-family-link-for-parents\/id1150085200\">iPad<\/a>, or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.kids.familylink&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=US\">Android<\/a> devices. This feature only works if your child\u2019s device is running Android, but you can use any device to keep an eye on them.<\/p>\n<p>Family Link has a number of tools for screen time. You can see which <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>s they\u2019ve used, how long they used them, and how long the screen has been on. In addition, you can set limits for how long they can use specific apps and put a time limit on screen time in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Know_Where_They_Are\"><\/span>Know Where They Are<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Tracking people with smartphones is a touchy subject\u2014rightly so, it\u2019s a huge privacy concern\u2014but we tend to be a little more lenient when it comes to tracking our own kids. Family Link makes this easy and transparent.<\/p>\n<p>This is another feature that will only work if your kid\u2019s device runs Android. However, you can track their location from an iPhone or iPad as well. The kid will be alerted when they\u2019re being tracked, which is pretty important.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have Family Link all set up, it\u2019s incredibly easy to track your kids\u2019 devices whenever you want. It can all be done from your device, they don\u2019t need to be near you.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Block_Them_From_Making_Purchases\"><\/span>Block Them From Making Purchases<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If it hasn\u2019t happened to you, you\u2019ve probably heard stories of kids racking up bills by buying apps and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s. With Family Link, you can make sure that never happens\u2014as long as your kid uses Android.<\/p>\n<p>The feature works through the Google Play Store, which is why your kid needs an Android device. To set this up, open your kid\u2019s profile in the Family Link app and go to Manage Settings &gt; Google Play.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-752794\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-08-31_16-13-46.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Google Play controls.\" width=\"448\" height=\"182\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Under \u201cPurchases &amp; Download Approvals,\u201d tap \u201cRequire Approval For.\u201d Now you can decide when you want your approval to be requested.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-752793\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-08-31_16-14-26.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Choose how they need approval.\" width=\"651\" height=\"312\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Content_Restrictions\"><\/span>Content Restrictions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Not only can Family Link stop your kids from buying stuff, it can also restrict what type of content they can see in the Play Store. Since this works through the Play Store, your child will need an Android device again.<\/p>\n<p>With this feature, you can choose an approved rating for apps, games, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a>, TV shows, and books. Only content that meets the ratings you choose will be visible to your kids. It can be hard to monitor and there are tons of ways for kids to get around restrictions. Family Link has some tools to help with this, but they can only go so far.<\/p>\n<p>Family Link allows you to set up some restrictions with the Google Chrome browser. You have three options available on your child\u2019s profile at\u00a0Manage Settings &gt; Google Chrome.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Allow All Sites:<\/strong> No restrictions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Block Explicit Sites:<\/strong> Google tries to block sites and search results that it identifies as explicit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Allow Approved Sites:<\/strong> You create a list of approved sites, plus your child can request access to sites.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-752791\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-08-31_16-27-19.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Browsing limits.\" width=\"446\" height=\"453\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Depending on the age of your child, they may be able to get around these restrictions. In tandem with other features, however, it would be hard for them to completely hide their activity.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>As you can see, there are quite a few nifty tools for your family. Unfortunately, many of them require your children to have Android devices.
