{"id":345419,"date":"2021-09-28T17:05:11","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T14:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/salmonella-outbreak-from-unknown-source-spreads-to-29-states\/"},"modified":"2021-09-28T17:05:11","modified_gmt":"2021-09-28T14:05:11","slug":"salmonella-outbreak-from-unknown-source-spreads-to-29-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/salmonella-outbreak-from-unknown-source-spreads-to-29-states\/","title":{"rendered":"#Salmonella outbreak from unknown source spreads to 29 states"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Salmonella outbreak from unknown source spreads to 29 states<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/salmonella-14.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>An ongoing\u00a0salmonella outbreak\u00a0from an unknown food source has spread to 29 states, federal health officials warned. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The outbreak has infected nearly 280 people and more than two dozen have been hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s (CDC) latest update, which was issued on Sept. 23.<\/p>\n<p>Still, there have been no deaths associated with the \u201cfast-growing outbreak,\u201d according to the CDC.<\/p>\n<p>The agency created a map showcasing where people impacted by the salmonella outbreak live.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So far, Texas has the most reported illnesses \u2013 81 \u2013 followed by Illinois and Virginia, which have 23 and 22 reported cases, respectively. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota, with 19 illnesses and Massachusetts, with 10, round out the top five states with the most reported cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the agency cautioned that the map may not represent all of the cases \u201cbecause many people recover without medical care and are not tested for salmonella.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CDC said officials in several states have been collecting data as part of a multistate investigation into an outbreak of salmonella oranienburg infections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The agency added that officials have been collecting and testing food items from restaurants \u201cwhere sick people ate\u201d but have not yet identified a \u201cfood linked to illness.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In its latest update, the CDC said a strain of salmonella oranienburg was found in a takeout condiment cup containing cilantro and lime \u2013 although the container had contained onions at one point, making it hard to identify the source.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause multiple food items were present in the container and in the sample that was tested, it is not possible to know which food item was contaminated,\u201d the CDC said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officials are using the information \u201cin conjunction with other available information to help narrow the list of possible foods linked to illness.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the potentially harmful bacteria causes about 1.35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations and 420 deaths across the United States, according to the CDC. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most people who became infected with the bacteria have diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps with symptoms lasting up to seven days.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, in some cases, \u201cpeople\u2019s illness may be so severe that they need to be hospitalized,\u201d the CDC said.\u00a0\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
