With each and every major release, more and more classic tools are getting their modern successors that implemented in Settings. With Windows 10 build 20175, Windows 10 has a new replacement for the Disk Management tool. <\/p>\n<p>RECOMMENDED: Click here to fix Windows errors and optimize system performance<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-30645\"><\/span>As you may already know, Windows 10 Insider Preview includes a set of &#8220;hidden&#8221; feature which are not accessible to regular users. Usually, the OS includes features that are not finished or can cause some unexpected behavior. The new Disk Management Tool is one of them. As of this moment, the tool is a work-in-progress, and is hidden. You need to perform extra steps to make it visible and give it a try.<\/p>\n<p>The new tool, after you enable it, becomes available under <code>Settings > Storage<\/code>, with the new <code>Manage Disks and Volumes<\/code> link.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Manage Disks And Volumes Link In Settings\" height=\"87\" src=\"https:\/\/winaero.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Manage-Disks-and-Volumes-link-in-Settings.png\" width=\"256\"><\/img><\/p>\n<p>It lists all your storage devices and their partitions. For a partition, it provides the following two options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Explore &#8211; this will simply open the selected partition\/drive in the File Explorer.<\/li>\n<li>Properties &#8211; opens the next page with management tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Manage Disks And Volumes Page In Settings\" height=\"867\" src=\"https:\/\/winaero.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Manage-Disks-and-Volumes-page-in-Settings.png\" width=\"1804\"><\/img><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Manage Disks And Volumes Page In Settings Partition Options\" height=\"170\" src=\"https:\/\/winaero.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Manage-Disks-and-Volumes-page-in-Settings-partition-options.png\" width=\"504\"><\/img><\/p>\n<p>From the <em>Properties<\/em> page for a fixed drive, you can do the following things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Change the drive letter<\/li>\n<li>Change its label (rename the drive)<\/li>\n<li>Resize the drive &#8211; here you shrink or extend the partition.<\/li>\n<li>Add paths &#8211; allows creating extra mount points for the selected volume.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Fixed Drive Properties\" height=\"867\" src=\"https:\/\/winaero.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Fixed-Drive-properties.png\" width=\"1804\"><\/img><\/p>\n<p>For a removable drive, the <em>Properties<\/em> page allows changing the removal policy, take it offline, and view some extra data.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Removable Drive Properties\" height=\"807\" src=\"https:\/\/winaero.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Removable-Drive-properties.png\" width=\"660\"><\/img><\/p>\n<p>And that is all at this moment. The new Disk Management tool can&#8217;t yet compete with the its classic counterpart, and it only works partially (that&#8217;s why it is hidden). However, there is no shadow of a doubt that soon it will be promoted as a primary partition management option, exactly like it had happened to the classic Disk Cleanup tool.<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in enabling this new Settings page, you need a third-party but open source tool Vive. If you are using PowerShell, add<code> .<\/code> to the command, as follows: .<code>ViveTool.exe addconfig 23257398 2<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>You will get a message &#8220;<em>Successfully set feature configuration&#8221;<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You are done. The new Disk Management Tool page should become available in Settings.
