This is most likely for security reasons. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to make an app more difficult to find and off of your main home screen.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"You_Can_Move_an_App_to_the_App_Library\"><\/span>You Can Move an App to the App Library<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Starting with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/678911\/whats-new-in-ios-14-and-ipados-14-watchos-7-airpods-more\/\">iOS 14 on the iPhone\u00a0and iPadOS 15 on iPad, you can now hide an app from your home screens by moving it to the App Library. It will still be visible if someone digs into the App Library, but it won\u2019t appear on your home screen.<\/p>\n<p>To do so, long-press the app\u2019s icon on your home screen. Tap \u201cRemove App\u201d and then select \u201cRemove from Home Screen.\u201d You can also have your iPhone or iPad\u00a0automatically place new app icons in your App Library and not on the home screen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-757244\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/tap-remove-from-home-screen-to-move-the-app-to-the-app-library.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Tap &quot;Remove from Home Screen&quot; to move the app to the app library\" width=\"650\" height=\"406\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"You_Cant_Completely_Hide_an_App_on_iPhone_or_iPad\"><\/span>You Can\u2019t Completely Hide an App on iPhone or iPad<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Apple has never provided the ability to hide an app on iOS or iPadOS. The only way to completely remove an app from your iPhone or iPad is to delete it. To <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/442581\/how-to-delete-apps-on-an-iphone-or-ipad-with-ios-13\/\">delete an app, tap and hold its icon until a pop-up menu appears. From there, select Remove App &gt; Delete App &gt; Delete.<\/p>\n<p>We have a few tricks that will hide an app without removing it. These include removing the app from Siri shortcuts and suggestions, disabling features like notifications, and burying the icon in a folder far from prying eyes.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Exclude_the_App_from_Search_and_Siri_Suggestions\"><\/span>Exclude the App from Search and Siri Suggestions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Siri Suggestions appear on the Today screen and next to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/229060\/how-to-use-spotlight-search-on-your-iphone-or-ipad\/\">Spotlight search field on your iPhone or iPad. If you use search to find apps regularly (and you should\u2014just pull down on your home screen to reveal the search box), the app you want to hide might be suggested from time to time. Or, it might surface when you search for other apps.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-509035 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/siri_suggestions.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Siri Suggestsions in iOS.\" width=\"650\" height=\"240\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>If you use an app a lot, Siri will frequently recommend it. Apple\u2019s assistant will also learn from the app and make suggestions across other apps. When you hit the \u201cShare\u201d button in one app, you often see a list of recommended destinations that Siri has learned based on usage, for example.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>How to Find an App on Your iPhone or iPad Fast<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then there are search results. Many apps allow iOS and iPadOS to index searchable databases so you can find documents or notes quickly in native searches. This could give away much more information than a simple Siri suggestion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-509036 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/search_results.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"iOS System search results from indexed apps.\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Head to Settings &gt; Siri &amp; Search and find the app you want to \u201chide\u201d from the long list of installed apps on your device. Disable all options on this screen to see one more appear: Show App.<\/p>\n<p>Disable \u201cShow App in Search\u201d and \u201cShow on Home Screen\u201d to exclude the app from all search results and suggestion screens. To find the app in the future, you have to find its icon somewhere on your home screen or in its folders, and then launch it from there.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-757247\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/siri-and-search-show-app-in-search.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Siri &amp; Search settings menu where you can disable app suggestions\" width=\"561\" height=\"500\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Settings app itself doesn\u2019t follow these rules. If you pull down the list of options in the Settings app, you see a search field. Here, you can search for functions and installed apps to adjust their preferences quickly. Any app you try to hide or exclude will always appear in Settings and its search field.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bury_the_App_in_a_Folder\"><\/span>Bury the App in a Folder<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You\u2019ll probably want to strike a balance between covert and convenient when you decide where to put the app icon. If you use the app a lot, you want to make sure it\u2019s accessible within a few taps. If it\u2019s a once-a-week type deal, then you can get a little more creative.<\/p>\n<p>You can create folders on iPhone and iPad by tapping and holding an app icon until all the icons on the screen wiggle. Then, tap and hold an app and hover over another app. A folder appears, and you can name it whatever you want. To get rid of the folder, remove all but the last app.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-509038\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/hidden_in_folder.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"A folder of apps on iOS.\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>For best results, use a folder with plenty of apps in it\u2014ideally, enough that it spans multiple pages. If you want to hide the app from others who use your phone, pick a boring folder full of utilities, rather than a folder full of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s.<\/p>\n<p>I settled on a folder called \u201cUtilities\u201d that had apps like TeamViewer, Telegram, and a PDF converter in it. Other ideas include a \u201cWork\u201d folder, or one full of \u201cShopping\u201d apps or \u201cOffice\u201d tools. A \u201cHealth\u201d folder might also be sufficiently boring enough to deter snoopers.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Disable_App_Notifications\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_4\">Disable App Notifications<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>An app\u2019s notifications still appear even after you exclude it from search and other suggestions. Head to Settings &gt; Notifications, and then scroll down until you find the app. Tap it, and then disable the \u201cAllow Notifications\u201d option to prevent the app from showing any notifications on your phone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-509039 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/disable_notifications.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"The &quot;Notifications&quot; option for Messenger on iOS.\" width=\"650\" height=\"256\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You can also simply choose to hide notifications from the lock screen and disable banners. If you leave \u201cNotification Center\u201d active, you\u2019ll only see notifications for an app when you manually check for them. If you\u2019re serious about hiding an app, it\u2019s best to disable all the settings.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hide_Downloads_from_Your_App_Store_History\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_5\">Hide Downloads from Your App Store History<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you delete an app from your iPhone or iPad, Apple\u2019s App Store will still remember you downloaded it. It\u2019ll appear on your \u201cPurchased\u201d tab, even if the app was a free download.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the one area where Apple does allow you to hide apps is in your purchase history. To <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/231715\/how-to-hide-apps-youve-purchased-on-apples-app-store-and-google-play\/\">see a list of previously purchased apps, first, launch the App Store and then tap your user icon in the top-right corner. From there, select \u201cPurchased.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can now scroll through a list of the free and paid apps you previously downloaded. To hide one, swipe left on it and tap \u201cHide\u201d to make it disappear. You can also search for any specific apps you want to hide using the field at the top of the screen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-509040 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/hide_itunes_purchase.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"The &quot;Purchased&quot; screen in the App Store.\" width=\"650\" height=\"595\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Once you hide it, the app disappears. If you want to download it again, you\u2019ll have to tap \u201cGet\u201d and reauthorize it, rather than tapping the iCloud download icon as per other purchased apps.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_Dummy_Apps_to_Hide_Files_and_Notes\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_6\">Use Dummy Apps to Hide Files and Notes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re trying to hide files and notes, you might want to use a \u201cdummy\u201d app to hide content in plain sight. These apps appear to be something benign, like a calculator. Their true purpose, though, is to store files and information without raising suspicion.<\/p>\n<p>Apple isn\u2019t fond of deceptive practices, so these apps are always described as such in its listings. Dummy apps are hard to spot. They use passable app icons alongside names that won\u2019t arouse suspicion.<\/p>\n<p>If you like the calculator disguise, check out <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/au\/app\/calculator-hide-photos-videos\/id1165276801\">Calculator#<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/au\/app\/private-calculator-free-file-hider-secret-photo-video\/id873934425\">Private Calculator<\/a>, or\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/au\/app\/turbo-vault-lock-photo-s-hide-secret-video-s\/id1213309181\">Turbo Vault<\/a>. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/au\/app\/secret-folder-vault\/id715337334\">Secret Folder Vault<\/a> is a locked folder where you can store photos, passwords, and more. In\u00a0Apple Notes, you can lock Notes\u00a0with Face or Touch ID.<\/p>\n<p>All of these apps allow you to hide content from snoopers, even if they gain access to your unlocked phone or tablet.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hide_Photos_and_Videos_in_the_Photos_App\"><\/span>Hide Photos and Videos in the Photos App<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you want to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/513196\/how-to-hide-private-photos-and-videos-on-your-iphone\/\">hide an image or video from your Photos library, you can do so without any extra software. Unfortunately, it\u2019s not particularly secure. Simply find the picture or video you want to hide, tap share, and then scroll down and choose \u201cHide\u201d from the list.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-509041 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/hide_photo.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Options to hide images and videos in the Photos App.\" width=\"650\" height=\"482\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The photo or video is placed in an album called \u201cHidden\u201d on the Albums tab in the Photos app. This album is completely unprotected, though, so anyone can find the photos you hide if they look for them.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this feature is to remove risqu\u00e9 photos from your main Photos timeline.
