class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>A once-thriving Ford Motor Company plant in Pittsburgh is being transformed into a cancer\u00a0and biomedical research hub aptly called The Assembly, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n<p>The changeover is another sign that the<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/gas-engines-cast-aside-electric-vehicles-job-losses-detroit-11627046285\"> autogas industry is diminishing<\/a> and follows the announcement earlier this month that New York plans to phase out most gas-powered vehicles by 2035.\u00a0Meanwhile, the biomedical industry <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.grandviewresearch.com\/industry-analysis\/biotechnology-market\">has skyrocketed in recent years<\/a>, now valued at almost $850 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to be converting this historic, underutilized industrial facility into a hub for research, discovery and entrepreneurial activity,\u201d\u00a0Thomas Osha, a senior vice president who works on the innovation and economic development team at\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wexfordscitech.com\/\">Wexford Science + Technology<\/a>, told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The structure spans a colossal 355,000 square feet, including a 105,000-square-foot addition to the original building.\u00a0Features of the building will include lab, research, office and event spaces, including an indoor parking garage, an auditorium with a 250-seat capacity and a cafe.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, next door to the former Ford plant will be another new lab\/office space spanning 110,000 square feet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch like Ford\u2019s vision for an all-in-one building for building cars, our transformation will result in a singular facility for \u2018assembling\u2019 many of the elements of an innovation ecosystem, including top research talent, unique innovation infrastructure, corporate engagement, and community inclusion,\u201d Osha added. \u201cThis is one of the reasons we have renamed the building \u2018The Assembly.&#8217;\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"819\" immunotherapy, transplantation, aging, neuro<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>, and other areas of research focus at Pitt,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" The facility was purchased by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2006 but has remained vacant for more than 15 years. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have had our eye on the Pittsburgh market for some time, as the region\u2019s life science ecosystem is expanding at a rapid pace,\u201d Osha said.\u00a0\u201cThe University of Pittsburgh \u2014 where Jonas Salk invented the polio vaccine in 1953 \u2014 is the region\u2019s life sciences anchor and is advancing what\u2019s next in healthcare and medicine with globally renowned research in immunization, transplantation and neuroscience.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The building is scheduled to be completed at the start of 2022.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
