\n The Jets will finally be together this week in Florham Park after the strangest offseason in NFL history.<\/p>\n

Veteran players will report Tuesday to get tested for COVID-19, then begin virtual meetings and finally be allowed into the team\u2019s training center once they have two negative COVID tests. It is the end of the strangest offseason and the beginning of the strangest training camp.<\/p>\n

For the Jets, this camp will be a challenge to get to know each other quickly. Jets GM Joe Douglas added a lot of new players in his first full offseason on the job. The Jets are expected to have as many as eight new starters on offense and six on defense versus Week 1 of a year ago. That would be challenging under normal circumstances, but even more with no preseason game<\/a>s and a limited number of padded practices.<\/p>\n

Coach Adam Gase will be the one charged with overcoming that obstacle as he enters his second season as the Jets coach. The Jets went 7-9 under Gase, winning six of their final eight games, last year. Even though he has only been here for a year, the burden of nine seasons for the franchise without a playoff berth looms large over his job status. Fans have no more patience for the Jets and want to see a playoff team.<\/p>\n

Gase\u2019s biggest task is getting the most out of third-year quarterback Sam Darnold, who this spring said he believes the Jets have the pieces in place for a successful season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe definitely have the guys to be able to win football games. But as we see every year, it\u2019s about putting everything together,\u201d Darnold said. \u201cI know everyone\u2019s just looking forward to going out there and winning the first game, and then after that, winning the second one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gase has said he wants Darnold to take ownership of the offense, which was dreadful last year and finished dead last in the NFL. <\/p>\n

\u201cSam\u2019s trying to do the right thing as far as making sure he knows this offense cold, he knows all the little details that he needs to do day in and day out,\u201d Gase said. \u201cHe has to help all these guys that are new get caught up to speed as fast as possible. He\u2019s really kind of an extension of the coaching staff in that aspect. He has more experience in this offense than most of the guys who are here. He\u2019s going to have to do a good job of making sure he\u2019s on point.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beyond Darnold, there are questions on the offense about how an offensive line with potentially four new starters from last season plays, can Breshad Perriman pick up where he left off last season with the Buccaneers, can Le\u2019Veon Bell have a bounce back year and can rookies Mekhi Becton and Denzel Mims contribute immedia<\/a>tely. <\/p>\n

On defense, the biggest question will be how Gregg Williams\u2019 unit looks without Jamal Adams, who was the best player he had last season. The Jets got Bradley McDougald from Seattle in the trade for Adams, so you\u2019d expect him to slide into Adams\u2019 spot.<\/p>\n

Other than the absence of Adams, the return of inside linebacker C.J. Mosley after missing nearly all of last year is the big story. The Jets gave Mosley a five-year, $85 million deal last year but he played in just two games. They need him to stay on the field this year and help Williams lead the defense.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
