By default, Windows 11 doesn\u2019t display any special icons (such as \u201cThis PC\u201d or \u201cRecycle Bin\u201d) on your desktop. If you\u2019d like a classic Windows look, you can enable special desktop icons easily. Here\u2019s how to do it.<\/p>\n

First, right-click an empty spot on the desktop and select \u201cPersonalize\u201d in the menu that appears.<\/p>\n

The Windows Settings app will open to the \u201cPersonalization\u201d page. In the list of Personalization categories, select \u201cThemes.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Themes, scroll down and click \u201cDesktop Icon Settings.\u201d<\/p>\n

A special window titled \u201cDesktop Icon Settings\u201d will appear. Using the \u201cDesktop Icons\u201d section near the top of the window, place check marks beside the special icons you\u2019d like to appear on the desktop. For example, if you\u2019d like to see the Recycle Bin on your desktop, check \u201cRecycle Bin.\u201d When you\u2019re done, click \u201cOK.\u201d<\/p>\n

After clicking \u201cOK,\u201d the window will close. You can close Settings as well. Take a look at your desktop, and you\u2019ll see the special icons that you checked in the \u201cDesktop Icon Settings\u201d window.<\/p>\n

Tip:<\/strong> You can make your desktop icons bigger or smaller by holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and scrolling your mouse wheel up or down.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If you change your mind and want to hide certain special desktop icons, just revisit Settings > Personalization > Themes > Desktop Icon Settings and uncheck the icons you no longer want to see.<\/p>\n

Want to hide all your desktop icons instead? Just right-click your desktop, point to \u201cView,\u201d and toggle the \u201cShow Desktop Icons\u201d option.<\/p>\n
