{"id":347576,"date":"2021-10-02T15:14:30","date_gmt":"2021-10-02T12:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/a-minneapolis-anti-police-proposal-would-endanger-black-lives\/"},"modified":"2021-10-02T15:14:30","modified_gmt":"2021-10-02T12:14:30","slug":"a-minneapolis-anti-police-proposal-would-endanger-black-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/a-minneapolis-anti-police-proposal-would-endanger-black-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"#A Minneapolis anti-police proposal would endanger black lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#A Minneapolis anti-police proposal would endanger black lives<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>The city of Minneapolis is about to become the center of a crude experiment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 2, residents get a chance to vote on a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.startribune.com\/need-to-know-about-the-minneapolis-charter-amendments-police-mayor-rent-public-safety-city-council\/600097438\/?refresh=true\">proposed charter amendment<\/a> that would abolish the police department and replace it with a new \u201cpublic safety\u201d agency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The initiative aims to remedy \u201cstate-sanctioned violence\u201d against \u201cBlack lives\u201d in the aftermath of George Floyd\u2019s tragic death, according to its proponents, the radical activist group <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/yes4minneapolis.org\/\">Yes 4 Minneapolis<\/a>. It would establish a \u201ccomprehensive public health <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach to safety,\u201d rather than the current \u201cpunitive\u201d system. \u201cCompassion, humanity and love\u201d will be the new foundation of this progressive model, as Ilhan Omar poetically opined in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.startribune.com\/u-s-rep-ilhan-omar-charter-change-on-minneapolis-public-safety-is-needed\/600092565\/?refresh=true\">recent Minneapolis Star Tribune op-ed<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While these sentiments are well-intentioned and appealing, they obscure the dangers of overhauling an already hamstrung system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new public safety agency would strike down the city charter\u2019s mandate requiring the police department to maintain a minimum staffing level, which is currently deficient by more than 200 officers. Its commissioner would be appointed by the overwhelmingly progressive city council \u2014 most of whom vowed to dismantle the police force last year. The proposal also states that the new agency \u201ccould include licensed peace officers (police officers) if necessary.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/yes-4-minneapolis.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Supporters rally for Minneapolis' Yes 4 initiative, which would abolish the city's police department.\" class=\"wp-image-19670930\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/yes-4-minneapolis.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/yes-4-minneapolis.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/yes-4-minneapolis.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Supporters rally for Minneapolis\u2019 Yes 4 initiative, which would abolish the city\u2019s police department.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">yes4minneapolis.org<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While parts of the amendment are worth considering, such as mental health responders and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> workers handling nonviolent 911 calls (in collaboration with the police), most of the proposition is horribly vague. What\u2019s more, such a radical, abolitionist approach to the police portends disaster given the already volatile state of the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2020 was already the city\u2019s second-deadliest year on record. This year, homicides have surged another 15 percent, and 2021 will likely beat or approach the 1995 record of 97 homicides, when the city was dubbed \u201cMurderopolis.\u201d If anything, the city needs more cops who can proactively police neighborhoods to protect the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Former Minneapolis mayoral candidate Don Samuels, an entrepreneur from Jamaica who achieved the American dream, has watched in horror as the violence has escalated in his adopted hometown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/ilhan-omar.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"US Rep. Ilhan Omar recently opined in the Minneapolis Star Tribune about her support for Yes 4. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for CPD Action<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere were like 20 shootings and shots fired in different locations around my house in two hours,\u201d he told me of one recent night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Minneapolis\u2019 ShotSpotter system recorded the sound of 8,382 gunshots through the end of September \u2014 more than double in the same time period in 2019 (3,388) and still well over the record-breaking number in 2020 (7,115).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe nightly gunfire leaves their indelible marks in frequent reports of deaths nearby,\u201d Samuels said. \u201cCarjackings and robberies have taken their toll. Neighbors are getting trauma therapy, taking sedatives and shipping off their traumatized children to relatives. Tim Walz, begging for the deployment of the National Guard to \u201cstop the bleeding\u201d in the city. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">ZUMAPRESS.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A recent poll sponsored by the Star Tribune <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.startribune.com\/minnesota-poll-most-minneapolis-voters-want-reform-not-fewer-cops\/600098569\/?refresh=true\">reveals<\/a> that supporters of reducing the police are overwhelmingly young, white and college-educated. Three-quarters of surveyed black voters oppose reducing the police force, compared to just half of whites. More whites (50 percent) than blacks (42\u2009percent) support the complete replacement of the police department. But white voters make up two-thirds of Minneapolis residents, giving them more power on an issue that affects them less.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 18 months, the radical left\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wesleyyang.substack.com\/p\/welcome-to-year-zero\">ongoing war<\/a> against the foundations of our society has become increasingly successful. The police, standardized tests, due process and free speech are all under vigorous attack \u2014 and the radical activists are winning.
