\n New York state and city have hit record lows for coronavirus hospitalizations based on the latest available figures.<\/p>\n

There were 637 people hospitalized with the contagion statewide Saturday, the lowest daily figure since March 18, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a new low for us since March 18, so really great news<\/a>,\u201d the governor told reporters in a conference call.<\/p>\n

The city recorded four hospitalizations Friday, the latest data available \u2014 tying its previous low on March 1.<\/p>\n

The state also reported three confirmed deaths Saturday, while the city had seven, confirmed and suspected combined, Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s the but? The but is the constant caution of this virus,\u201d Cuomo said Sunday. \u201cDon\u2019t get cocky, don\u2019t get arrogant. There are still threats out there. You still have the national threat, and you have the compliance challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

He crowed that the state also is holding steady with a 1 percent positive-test rate.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew York did 53,568 tests [Saturday]. Five hundred and third six positive. That is 1 percent, on the head, positive,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n

He said that\u2019s a key figure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said from Day One, we\u2019re going to calibrate the reopening. What did we calibrate it to? To the rate of transmission,\u201d Cuomo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is the rate of transmission that you want to stay at? One [percent]. You don\u2019t want to do over 1. \u2026 We are at that number. That\u2019s the red line. We\u2019re at the red line. So we are re-opening as fast as we can, and we are aggressive at reopening because we\u2019re at the red line.<\/p>\n

He said if things reopen too quickly, \u201cthat\u2019s when the engine blows.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
