Fortunately, the Breathe watch faces are still intact with their rhythmic animations that you can use to help focus your breathing.<\/p>\n<p>Breathe is now Mindfulness, but it works in an almost identical manner. One big difference is that there are now two session types: Breathe (as per watchOS 7 and earlier) and Reflect.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-759137\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/mindfulness_apple_watch_app.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Mindfulness app in Apple Watch\" width=\"368\" height=\"448\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Each of these options works in a similar way to the Workout app. You can tap on the ellipsis \u201c\u2026\u201d icon next to each to adjust the session length, with one minute being the default and five minutes being the maximum. Tap on a session to start it, and follow the prompts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-759138\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/reflect_duration.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Change Reflect session duration\" width=\"368\" height=\"448\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Breathe experience is largely unchanged. You\u2019ll see an animation of what could be interpreted as a flower growing and shrinking, with haptic feedback on your wrist to match. Breathe in deeply when the flower grows, then breathe out when it shrinks. Each Reflect session prompts you with what Apple calls a \u201cunique, thoughtful notion to consider that invites a positive frame of mind.\u201d The goal here is to focus your mind on a single (ideally positive) train of thought for just a short period.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-759140\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/reflect_prompt.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Reflect session prompt\" width=\"368\" height=\"448\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>These prompts may relate to past experiences, people in your life, or physical sensations. While the session plays out, you\u2019ll see an animation on your Apple Watch but no breath rate indicator.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-759141\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/reflect_summary.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Summary of a Reflect session\" width=\"368\" height=\"448\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no real need to look at your watch at all though since you\u2019ll get a haptic notification to let you know your session is over, alongside a summary with your heart rate.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Get_Reminders_Or_Dont\"><\/span>Get Reminders (Or Don\u2019t)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most divisive aspects of the Breathe app was the frequent notifications to complete a session at seemingly random times. The good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> is that if you previously turned these notifications off, they\u2019ll be off for the Mindfulness app too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-759142\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/mindfulness_notifications.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Toggle Mindfulness notifications on your Apple Watch\" width=\"650\" height=\"368\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>If you head over to the Watch app on your iPhone and scroll down to Mindfulness, you\u2019re able to toggle these notifications on or off. There are toggles for reminders at the start of your day and end of your day, which will differ depending on your daily habits as analyzed by Siri.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-759143\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/mindfulness_add_reminder.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Add a custom reminder for the Mindfulness app\" width=\"650\" height=\"352\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You can also use the \u201cAdd Reminder\u2026\u201d option to add your own reminders at a specific time. This is probably the most useful setting since you can schedule your sessions for a time when you\u2019re likely free. There\u2019s a \u201cWeekly Summary\u201d notification too, which lets you know how you\u2019ve done over the week.<\/p>\n<p>If you find the Breathe app to be a little fast or slow for your taste, you can adjust the Breath Rate in this menu too.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Science_of_Mindfulness\"><\/span>The Science of Mindfulness<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s unlikely that Apple\u2019s Mindfulness app is going to win you over if you don\u2019t already practice mindfulness in some capacity.
