“#Michelle Forbes’ Real Role Makes It ‘Even More Difficult’ for Max to Leave<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Is Michelle Forbes<\/a> about to ruin Sharpwin\u2019s happ<\/a>iness on New Amsterdam<\/em>?<\/p>\n

Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) and Dr. Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) are together, engaging in that \u201cmore joy\u201d that\u2019s prevalent this season, and planning to head to London in just a few weeks, and that means New Amsterdam needs a new medical director. Max wants it to be Dr. Wilder (Sandra Mae Frank, who is so delightful in the role already), but she\u2019s said no. Besides, Karen Brantley (Debra Monk) brings in her pick: Dr. Veronica Fuentes (Forbes) is the new medical director. (Saying she was a fixer was just a cover for that major spoiler.)<\/p>\n

\u201cReally, you hired her?\u201d Max asks in disbelief following the announcement. \u201cGood to see you too,\u201d Veronica says. \u201cWe go way back. Don\u2019t we, Max?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe and Max have a history together and she\u2019s the opposite of New Amsterdam,\u201d executive producer David Schulner<\/a> tells TV Insider. \u201cNo one believes Max as he tries to convince everyone that she\u2019s the absolute wrong person for the job. Then slowly we start revealing why she\u2019s the absolute wrong person for the job, which makes Max leaving New Amsterdam even more difficult, knowing he\u2019s leaving it in the hands of his opposite as opposed to someone like Dr. Wilder.\u201d Uh-oh, should we be worried about Max and Helen\u2019s plans for the future?<\/p>\n

But Karen hired Veronica because she \u201cis the best at what she does,\u201d the EP continues. \u201cShe comes into a failing hospital and turns it around. There is no one better than her. Karen hired the best for when Max is leaving.\u201d<\/p>\n

So what does that mean for Max and Karen\u2019s relationship considering the two have been somewhat getting along? The same as it does for pretty much the rest of the show. \u201cMichelle Forbes\u2019 character comes in and just upends everything \u2014 every relationship, every department, every character,\u201d Schulner teases. \u201cShe just shakes the whole thing up in such a fun, great way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Due to COVID protocols, they couldn\u2019t recreate the auditorium scene from the pilot that introduced Max as the hospital\u2019s new medical director, but \u201cI would\u2019ve loved to do that,\u201d the EP admits. Instead, Karen informed Max, Helen, Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Jocko Sims), Dr. Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery), and Dr. Iggy Frome (Tyler Labine) of the news<\/a> by interrupting their group hug.<\/p>\n

In happier news in \u201cSame As It Ever Was,\u201d Helen decides she\u2019s moving in with Max and Luna. As she points out, they have to get used to living in a smaller space together, as they will be once they\u2019re in London. Off Bloom\u2019s encouragement, Leyla (Shiva Kalaiselvan) stands up to her when she disagrees with an order. Not only does that assertiveness win over the other residents (Leyla\u2019s finally invited out with them!), but it also has Bloom making plans for later at home.<\/p>\n
