{"id":349438,"date":"2021-10-07T05:44:16","date_gmt":"2021-10-07T02:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/cost-of-inflation-to-american-household-extra-175-a-month\/"},"modified":"2021-10-07T05:44:16","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T02:44:16","slug":"cost-of-inflation-to-american-household-extra-175-a-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/cost-of-inflation-to-american-household-extra-175-a-month\/","title":{"rendered":"#Cost of inflation to American household: extra $175 a month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Cost of inflation to American household: extra $175 a month<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>Over the past couple of months, Allison, a wife and mother of a toddler and teenager in Chicago, says she\u2019s been spending about $50 more each week on groceries to feed her family \u2014 and that\u2019s at a discount supermarket chain, Aldi\u2019s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI used to spend $70 a week, but all of sudden this summer, I noticed that I couldn\u2019t leave the store without spending at least $120,\u201d said Allison, who works in education.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Like millions of Americans whose income has not kept pace with inflation \u2014 up 5.3 percent in August compared with a year ago \u2014 Allison and her family are feeling the pinch of the rising cost of living and giving up some things just to make ends meet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Her family is scrimping now. \u201cThere are no more splurges like going to Home Depot to buy an extra plant or eating out,\u201d Allison said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spurred by supply shortages and massive government spending, inflation has become an added tax on middle-class Americans coming out of the COVID lockdowns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For households earning the US <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>n annual income of about $70,000, the current inflation rate has forced them to spend another $175 a month on food, fuel and housing, according to Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody\u2019s Analytics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/inflation-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"In this July 21,2021 photo, a consumer shops at a retail store in Morton Grove, Ill. \" class=\"wp-image-19722698\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/inflation-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/inflation-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/inflation-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>A lot of people have not seen their incomes keep up with rising inflation in the US.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Nam Y. Huh\/AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the equivalent of a full grocery, electric or cellphone bill,\u201d Zandi said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Although government officials have called the inflation \u201ctransitory,\u201d it\u2019s running at a 30-year high, and has been for months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Unpredictable supply-chain issues, including a record number of more than 70 cargo ships waiting to dock at the Port of Los Angeles, have made it difficult to predict when prices will stabilize.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To make matters worse, a trucker shortage has exacerbated the situation and shows no signs of abating. Everything from wood to electronics is becoming scarcer and more expensive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many consumer experts do not see any immediate relief in sight \u2014 with some bracing for a surge in credit-card debt. Delinquencies are 1.54 percent as of Sept. 21, compared with 1.30 percent on April 21.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrice increases will continue until the middle of next year,\u201d predicted Gordon Haskett analyst Chuck Grom, pointing to a PepsiCo announcement this week that consumers can expect another round of price hikes in early 2022 on the company\u2019s snacks and beverages.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, a 10-ounce bag of Lay\u2019s potato chips \u2014 Frito-Lay is owned by PepsiCo \u2014 cost $3.75 in August, 50 cents more than a year earlier at Dollar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> stores in the Southwest, Grom said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/Pepsi.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Pepsi has already warned of more price hikes in 2022.\" class=\"wp-image-19722714\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/Pepsi.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/Pepsi.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/Pepsi.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Pepsi has already warned of more price hikes in 2022.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Mark Lennihan\/AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The prices of other items have also ratcheted up at the discount chain, including a dozen 12-ounce Coca-Cola cans that cost $5.75 in August \u2014 50 cents more than in 2020 \u2014 at its Southwest stores, and a half a gallon of 2 percent store-brand milk that now costs $4.49, 74 cents more than a year earlier, according to Grom.
