You can enlarge the text and icons on your phone, but what if you don\u2019t want everything to be huge all the time?\u00a0<\/em>Android has a handy tool that allows you to zoom in on the screen whenever you want.<\/p>\n

Android devices include a suite of accessibility tools you may not know about. One of those tools is called \u201cMagnification.\u201d It\u2019s a gesture\/shortcut that lets you zoom in when there\u2019s something you need help seeing. It\u2019s only there when you need it.<\/p>\n

To get started, swipe down once or twice\u2014depending on your phone\u2014to reveal the Quick Settings menu. Select the gear icon to go to the system settings.<\/p>\n

Scroll down and tap \u201cAccessibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

Now select \u201cMagnification.\u201d On a Samsung device, you\u2019ll need to go to \u201cVisibility Enhancements\u201d before you see the Magnification tool.<\/p>\n

Toggle the switch on to enable the \u201cMagnification Shortcut.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s where things will vary depending on your device and Android version. Android 12 introduced a visible Magnification Shortcut that floats on the edge of the screen.<\/p>\n

Previous versions of Android have a two-finger gesture to bring up the magnification modes. Simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen with two fingers.<\/p>\n

Some devices also have a \u201cMagnification Type\u201d menu, which gives you the option to decide how<\/em> the screen will zoom in.<\/p>\n

Whether you have the shortcut or two-finger gesture, there are a number of other gestures you\u2019ll need to know after you use it.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s say you want to zoom in on the screen and interact with it while it\u2019s enlarged:<\/p>\n

  1. Start Magnification with the shortcut or gesture.<\/li>\n
  2. Tap the screen.<\/li>\n
  3. Drag 2 fingers to move around the screen.<\/li>\n
  4. Pinch with 2 fingers to adjust zoom.<\/li>\n
  5. Use the shortcut\/gesture to stop magnification.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Alternatively, if you just want to quickly zoom in on something, you can do it this way:<\/p>\n

    1. Start Magnification with the shortcut or gesture.<\/li>\n
    2. Touch and hold anywhere on the screen.<\/li>\n
    3. Drag finger to move around the screen.<\/li>\n
    4. Lift finger to stop magnification.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Note:<\/strong> The temporary zoom gesture only works with the \u201cFull Screen\u201d magnification type.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

      This is a great tool to know about if you sometimes have trouble seeing things on the display but don\u2019t want to commit to a giant UI full time. Android has a lot of great accessibility tools<\/a> if you know where to look for them.<\/p>\n
