Until now it has operated globally for years under what its chief executive, Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has described as a \u201cdecentralized\u201d structure.<\/p>\n<p>An Oct. 6 report from Irish <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> outlet Independant noted that Binance had established three subsidiaries in the country on Sept. 27 \u2014 Binance (APAC) Holdings, Binance (Services) Holdings, and Binance Technologies \u2014 with CZ listed as the director for each.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Reuters published the next day, CZ <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/binance-ceo-says-ireland-is-part-its-hq-plans-2021-10-07\/?taid=615f680d90c5510001ba790d&amp;utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;utm_source=twitter\">stated<\/a> that Binance is currently \u201cin the process of establishing a few headquarters in different parts of the world.\u201d When asked if Ireland was part of Binance\u2019s plans for formal headquarters, CZ responded: \u201cYes, it does.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Historically, we claim that we don&#8217;t have headquarters,\u201d said CZ, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhen we first started we wanted to embrace the decentralized principles, no headquarters, work all around the world, no borders. It&#8217;s  very clear now to run a centralized exchange, you need a centralized, legal entity structure behind it.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Binance\u2019s move to bolster its compliance comes as regulators around the world have taken action to limit the services provided by the exchange or warn their citizens against trading on the unlicensed platform.<\/p>\n<p>Binance\u2019s corporate structure has long been opaque, with Reuters reporting that its holding company is registered in the Cayman Islands.<\/p>\n<p>After being founded in China during July 2017, Binance quickly found itself playing regulatory arbitrage around the world after the Chinese government launched a crackdown on domestic crypto exchanges that year.\u00a0Binance quickly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/start-ups\/article\/2166704\/how-chinas-crackdown-helped-binance-become-worlds-largest\">moved<\/a> its headquarters to Tokyo, before expanding into Hong Kong and Taiwan.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Binance_turns_to_Malta\"><\/span>Binance turns to Malta<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Binance had <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/binanceexchange\/binance-the-worlds-largest-crypto-exchange-announces-investment-in-malta-4c7e51136563\">expressed<\/a> its intent to launch operations in Malta during March of 2018, with then-Maltese prime minister Joseph Muscat personally welcoming the firm on social media.
