Barbara Boxer and John Kerry \u2014 has questioned the credibility of whistleblower Frances Haugen, faced the ire of Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and tussled with reporters, accusing them of trashing the company with \u201cmisleading\u201d stories.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Insiders tell The Post that the real purpose of Stone\u2019s caustic comms strategy is to please Zuckerberg and chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg \u2014 even if that means angering the politicians who want to regulate Facebook and the reporters who cover it. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe target audience is Mark and Sheryl and Facebook employees,\u201d said a former Facebook employee who worked with Stone. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t really matter if reporters or the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> public like them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During past crises like the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook has played nice, buying apologetic full-page <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brianstelter\/status\/977890122044555265?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E977890122044555265%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2018\/3\/25\/17161398\/facebook-mark-zuckerberg-apology-cambridge-analytica-full-page-newspapers-ads\">newspaper ads<\/a> and sending Zuckerberg and Sandberg to testify before Congress. So that\u2019s the audience that Andy and the communications team are playing to right now,\u201d the former employee said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Haugen was testifying in front of a Senate subcommittee on Tuesday, Stone followed along and tried to downplay her credibility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust pointing out the fact that @FrancesHaugen did not work on child safety or Instagram or research these issues and has no direct knowledge of the topic from her work at Facebook,\u201d Stone tweeted while Haugen was still testifying.<\/p>\n<p>The former Facebook employee called that response \u201csexist and terrible.\u201d\u00a0Blackburn, the highest-ranking Republican on the subcommittee, was also not amused.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Facebook wants to discuss its targeting of children, come forward and testify,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarshaBlackburn\/status\/1445441835011383298?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">Blackburn wrote<\/a> in response to Stone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-45.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Andy Stone's aggressive communications strategy appeals to Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg (left) and founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg (right), insiders say.\" class=\"wp-image-19743753\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-45.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-45.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-45.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Andy Stone\u2019s aggressive communications strategy appeals to Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg (left) and founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg (right), insiders say.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Stone has also accused CBS\u2019s \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d which ran an interview with Haugen on Sunday, of using \u201cselect company materials to tell a misleading story.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>A comms executive who works with big tech companies other than Facebook also said Stone\u2019s strategy has clearly been to please the company\u2019s leadership \u2014 even if that means digging the company into a deeper hole on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re not going to change the public\u2019s opinion with nuanced arguments and fully contextualizing these facts, either because the facts are so bad or that\u2019s just not going to happen, then maybe the best move at this point is to show your bosses you\u2019re fighting for them,\u201d the executive said. \u201cWhat you\u2019re doing is to keep your bosses from going completely insane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carole Cadwalladr, a journalist for the Guardian who broke the Cambridge Analytica story, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inputmag.com\/features\/facebook-public-relations-andy-stone-twitter-whistleblower-controversy\">told Input<\/a> she had clashed with Stone long before he emerged as Facebook\u2019s chief critic of Haugen. <\/p>\n<p>Cadwalladr alleged Stone used \u201cdeliberate deceptions regarding Cambridge Analytica and repeatedly trolled me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cIt was just in no way appropriate for the corporate PR of a trillion-dollar company to behave like that toward a journalist,\u201d added Cadwalladr.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
