Temperature is something most of us have to think about. It\u2019s good to know for keeping your home comfortable and not running up your bills. We\u2019ll show you how to stay on top of it with specific temperature alerts.<\/p>\n

There are a few reasons why you might want to get an alert when it reaches a certain temperature outside. In the summer, it can save energy to open your windows, but when it gets too hot outside, you\u2019ll likely want to run the air conditioning. In the winter, it may be useful to get alerts when it reaches freezing temps.<\/p>\n

The service we\u2019ll be using to get these alerts is IFTTT<\/a> (If This Then That). This is a very popular service that has been around for a long time. You can very easily create simple strings, as the name suggests. In this case, we\u2019ll be doing \u201cIF the temperature is X, THEN send me an alert.\u201d<\/p>\n

First, head over to the IFTTT website<\/a> and sign up for an account. You can quickly sign up with an App<\/a>le, Google, or Facebook<\/a> account, or you can use an email address.<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019re signed in, select \u201cCreate\u201d on the IFTTT homepage.<\/p>\n

\"Click<\/p>\n

The first part to create is the \u201cIf This\u201d trigger. Select the \u201cAdd\u201d button.<\/p>\n

\"Click<\/p>\n

Search for \u201cWeather\u201d and select the \u201cWeather Underground\u201d service.<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

Now, depending on what you want to do, select the \u201cCurrent Temperature Drops Below\u201d or \u201cCurrent Temperature Rises Above\u201d trigger.<\/p>\n

\"Choose<\/p>\n

Next, you\u2019ll be asked to \u201cConnect\u201d the Weather Underground service.<\/p>\n

\"Click<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s where you can enter the temperature you want, choose the units, and enter your location. Select \u201cCreate Trigger\u201d when done.<\/p>\n

\"Fill<\/p>\n

Now it\u2019s time for the second half of the string, the \u201cThen That.\u201d Click \u201cAdd\u201d to get started.<\/p>\n

There are a lot of different ways you can get this alert. One of the most universal is \u201cEmail,\u201d so that\u2019s what we\u2019ll use here, but feel free to explore the other services.<\/p>\n

Select the \u201cSend Me an Email\u201d action.<\/p>\n

\"Click<\/p>\n

Click \u201cConnect\u201d on the next screen.<\/p>\n

\"Click<\/p>\n

Enter the email address you want to use and click \u201cSend PIN.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Enter<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll receive an email from IFTTT with a four-digit PIN. Enter it and click \u201cConnect.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Click<\/p>\n

The last thing to do is customize how the email will look. Enter the subject line and customize the body, then click \u201cCreate Action.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, click \u201cContinue\u201d and then \u201cFinish\u201d on the next two screens.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s all there is to it! You will now receive an email\u2014or whichever other method you chose\u2014when the temperature reaches the number you entered. This is a handy little trick, and it will help you get a handle on the weather.<\/p>\n
