Following the release of his classic debut album <em>Illmatic<\/em> in 1994, seemingly every Hip Hop publication from <em>VIBE<\/em> to <em>The Source<\/em> hailed him as the \u201csecond coming of Rakim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But one name Nas has likely never seen himself compared to before is legendary chess player Bobby Fischer \u2014 until now, that is.<\/p>\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\" style=\"margin: 10px 0 11px -10px\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c200\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            CMNUNT.load(\"content-b\", { \n                                containerid: \"contentUnit\u201c200\u201d\",\n                                keywords: \"section_post_inarticle\",\n                                lazyLoad: true\n                            });\n                        }\n                    <\/script>During a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance on the <em>Lex Fridman Podcast<\/em>, RZA \u2014 perhaps the only person on the planet qualified to draw parallels between Hip Hop and chess \u2014 explained the genius of Nas\u2019 artistry by comparing him to fellow prodigy Bobby Fischer.<\/p>\n<p>Nas, of course, made his grand entrance on Main Source\u2019s \u201cLive at the Barbeque\u201d at age 17 before setting a new standard for rap albums with <em>Illmatic<\/em> at 21 years old. Back in the late 1950s, Fischer became the youngest ever U.S. Chess Champion at age 14 and the youngest chess grandmaster at the time at 15.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"RZA: Nas is one of the greatest rappers ever | Lex Fridman Podcast Clips\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7AH0hyY0k48?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got to put Nas in that category,\u201d RZA said when asked about who he believes are the greatest rappers outside of the Wu-Tang Clan. \u201cWe got a chess board in front of us and one of the greatest chess players \u2014 the youngest grandmaster before, I think, [Magnus] Carlsen \u2014 was Bobby Fischer. One of the greatest American chess players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a master at, what, 14? To me, I met Nas when he was 15 and he was already a master lyricist. It takes about 10 years to become a master lyricist, so by the time the world heard Wu-Tang, most of us had 10 years of rapping in us already. The GZA was already a master when Nas was a master, but GZA was 21 \u2014 Nas was 15!\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\" style=\"margin: 10px 0 11px -10px\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c300\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            CMNUNT.load(\"content-b\", { \n                                containerid: \"contentUnit\u201c300\u201d\",\n                                keywords: \"section_post_inarticle\",\n                                lazyLoad: true\n                            });\n                        }\n                    <\/script>RZA elaborated on meeting a 15-year-old Nas (which would\u2019ve been in the late \u201980s, several years before <em>Illmatic<\/em> dropped and when RZA still went by the name Prince Rakeem) and recalled his reaction to the young Queensbridge kid\u2019s prodigious talent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I\u2019m four or five years older than Nas, so I was always feeling my confidence in what I was doing,\u201d he said. \u201cBut when I was like, \u2018This kid is only 15?! It was like, you know, project kids.
