The family of Jelani Day<\/strong> is clarifying some details from one particularly gruesome report that went viral about the condition of his body.<\/p>\n

As we reported, the Illinois State University <\/b>grad student\u2019s body was found in the Illinois River on September 4, weeks after his family reported him missing. The news<\/a> of his death broke weeks later, with one report from the Chicago Sun-Times<\/em> claiming his body was found without eyeballs, a brain, or other organs, including the 25-year-old\u2019s liver or spleen.<\/p>\n

Per the Sun-Times<\/em>, the family\u2019s attorney Hallie Bezner<\/strong> said the LaSalle County Coroner\u2019s Office\u2019s pathology report explained that the organs were \u201ccompletely liquefied.\u201d Naturally, this unsettling report sparked a big reaction on social media<\/a>, with many questioning exactly what happ<\/a>ened to the victim.<\/p>\n

Well, Day\u2019s mother, Carmen Bolden-Day<\/strong>, wants answers, too \u2014 but she also wants everyone to know that certain details in the Sun-Times<\/em> report are not true.\u00a0Carmen explained in a statement:<\/p>\n

\u201cNo organs were missing. I do not want to stray off from the facts. There were contradicting facts from the first preliminary autopsy compared to the second independent autopsy, but this is not a case of organ harvesting. However, my son did not put himself in a river. My son was murdered and my goal and purpose are to find out what happened and hold those responsible accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Day\u2019s family filed a missing person report when he didn\u2019t contact them for several days, which was very unusual behavior for the aspiring speech pathologist, who was last seen on campus on August 24.<\/p>\n

His mother previously told Dateline<\/i>:<\/p>\n

\u201cI call him my \u2018bill collector child.\u2019 Because he just calls me and calls me, nonstop, several times a day. So to not hear from him in a week is very unlike him. Something\u2019s not right.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Frustratingly, the Bloomington Police Department<\/b>\u2018s investigation has turned up little to no leads. Thanks to security footage, they did find that Day had visited a cannabis dispensary early on the morning of his disappearance. Two days later, his white Chrysler<\/b> was mysteriously found about an hour north of Bloomington, in Peru, Illinois. NBC News<\/i> reported that his clothes were left in the car.<\/p>\n

Bloomington Police said the LaSalle County Sheriff\u2019s Office is continuing to lead the ongoing investigation into Jelani\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
