Shutting down Ubuntu is easy, and you have several methods at your disposal for a safe end to operation.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Power_Off_Ubuntu_in_the_Desktop\"><\/span>How to Power Off Ubuntu in the Desktop<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The conventional way to shut down Ubuntu is in GNOME, the default <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/163154\/linux-users-have-a-choice-8-linux-desktop-environments\/\">desktop environment for Ubuntu. If you\u2019re a recent convert from Windows or Mac, though, you won\u2019t find the option where you\u2019d expect. We don\u2019t recommend doing this outside of emergencies, however, because forced shutdowns can damage your system.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Shut_Down_Ubuntu_in_the_Terminal\"><\/span>How to Shut Down Ubuntu in the Terminal<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are multiple commands you can use to shut down your Ubuntu PC in the Linux terminal. One example is <code>shutdown<\/code> . To try it, simply\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/686955\/how-to-launch-a-terminal-window-on-ubuntu-linux\/\">open a terminal window\u00a0and enter the <code>shutdown<\/code> command.<\/p>\n<pre>shutdown<\/pre>\n<p>After 60 seconds, unless you cancel it with <code>shutdown -c<\/code> , your PC will power down. If you don\u2019t want to wait 60 seconds, you can add the <code>now<\/code> argument.<\/p>\n<pre>shutdown now<\/pre>\n<p>A similar command is <code>poweroff<\/code>, which doesn\u2019t need a special argument to initiate an im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>te shutdown.<\/p>\n<pre>poweroff<\/pre>\n<p>Is there a difference between\u00a0<code>poweroff<\/code> and <code>shutdown<\/code>? They do offer some unique options and flags for shell scripting. For Ubuntu and all other distributions that use systemd, however, both commands use the same <code>systemctl poweroff<\/code>\u00a0process in the end.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s possible you\u2019ll run into problems with these commands if other users are logged into your device, or if you aren\u2019t on the sudoers list. It allows you to connect your mobile device with your Linux PC on the local network to share files, see notifications, send SMS messages, and much more. GNOME offers its own fully integrated version, called GSConnect, as a GNOME extension.<\/p>\n<p>Both your mobile device and Ubuntu must be connected to the same network in order to do this.\u00a0If you already have KDE Connect set up and paired, you can skip the next few steps.<\/p>\n<p>First, install the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/extensions.gnome.org\/extension\/1319\/gsconnect\/\">GSConnect<\/a> extension on\u00a0Chrome, Firefox, or Nautilus and install the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=org.kde.kdeconnect_tp\">KDE Connect<\/a> mobile app on your Android device.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you prefer, you can install the KDE Connect app on Ubuntu instead of GSConnect, although you won\u2019t get full integration with your browser.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Once installation is complete on both devices, pair them by tapping the menu button on the Android app and then selecting \u201cPair New Device.\u201d You should see your Ubuntu PC listed there, tap it and hit \u201cRequest Pairing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-753474\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/kde-connect-android-request-pairing.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"To begin the pairing process, tap &quot;Request Pairing&quot;\" width=\"650\" height=\"497\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to accept the pairing request on your PC.
