{"id":352476,"date":"2021-10-13T21:12:07","date_gmt":"2021-10-13T18:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/amazon-reportedly-ripped-off-sellers-rigged-search-results\/"},"modified":"2021-10-13T21:12:07","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T18:12:07","slug":"amazon-reportedly-ripped-off-sellers-rigged-search-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/amazon-reportedly-ripped-off-sellers-rigged-search-results\/","title":{"rendered":"#Amazon reportedly ripped off sellers, rigged search results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Amazon reportedly ripped off sellers, rigged search results<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>Amazon ripped off its third-party sellers\u2019 products and rigged search results to favor its own products \u2014 even as Jeff Bezos told Congress under oath that the company didn\u2019t engage in such practices, according to a new investigation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The knockoff and manipulation campaign occurred in Amazon\u2019s India division with the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roval of high-level executives based in the US, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/investigates\/special-report\/amazon-india-rigging\/\">Reuters reported<\/a> on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Amazon employees tracked sales and search data to identify \u201creference brands\u201d that the company then replicated and sold, according to a 2016 document seen by the outlet. <\/p>\n<p>The report gives credence to a claim that critics and some third-party sellers have been making for years: Amazon uses the unprecedented quantity of sales data it gathers as the world\u2019s top e-commerce site to help decide which products to make under its own labels like Amazon Basics.<\/p>\n<p>But the company has long denied such accusations. Speaking to Congress under oath last year, founder Jeff Bezos said the e-commerce giant has a rule prohibiting its employees from using data on third-party sellers to help its private-label business.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we found someone violated it, we would take action,\u201d said Bezos, who was Amazon CEO at the time but has since stepped down.<\/p>\n<p>But the internal documents seen by Reuters show that manipulating search results to favor Amazon\u2019s own products, as well as copying other sellers\u2019 goods,\u00a0were part of a formal, clandestine strategy at Amazon\u2019s India operation. The report did not say that Bezos was aware of the India strategy.<\/p>\n<p>The revelations could give fuel to antitrust regulators in the US, European Union and India, who are all investigating the company for allegedly using its size to squash competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the US, Federal Trade Commission chief Lina Khan wrote in a 2017 paper that Amazon\u2019s private-brand business raises competition concerns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is third-party sellers who bear the initial costs and uncertainties when introducing new products; by merely spotting them, Amazon gets to sell products only once their success has been tested,\u201d she wrote. \u201cThe anticompetitive implications here seem clear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amazon, for its part, has called on Khan to recuse herself from any investigations of the company because she has written critically about it in the past.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>With Post wires<\/em>\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
