Or, sometimes, you may want to add an invisible signature to protect the integrity of the document. You can do either in certain Office <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>s.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Add_a_Visible_Signature_in_Word_and_Excel\"><\/span>Add a Visible Signature in Word and Excel<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Microsoft Word and Excel both have a built-in feature that lets you insert a signature line and signature in the document or spreadsheet. You\u2019re also going to need a digital signature to insert on the signature line. Here\u2019s everything you need to do.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Insert_a_Signature_Line\"><\/span>Insert a Signature Line<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>First, go ahead and open the Word document or Excel spreadsheet you want to add the signature line to, and then place the cursor where you\u2019d like to insert it. Next, click \u201cSignature Line,\u201d found in the \u201cText\u201d group of the \u201cInsert\u201d tab.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759678 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Click-Signature-Line..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"378\" height=\"161\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Signature Setup window will appear. You\u2019ll need to fill out these fields:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Suggested Signer \u2013 The name of the person signing the document.<\/li>\n<li>Suggested Signer\u2019s Title \u2013 The title of the signer.<\/li>\n<li>Suggested Signer\u2019s Email Address \u2013 The email of the signer.<\/li>\n<li>Instructions to the Signer \u2013 You can add any special instructions you\u2019d like the signer to know before signing here.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You\u2019ll also need to check\/uncheck these options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Allow the Signer to Add Comments in the Sign Dialog \u2013 The signer of the document can also add the purpose of their signature.<\/li>\n<li>Show Sign Date in Signature Line \u2013 Once the document is signed, the date of when it was signed will appear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once you fill out everything, click the \u201cOK\u201d button at the bottom of the window.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759697 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Click-OK..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"323\" height=\"317\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The signature line will then appear.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759699 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/The-signature-line.-1.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"The signature line.\" width=\"362\" height=\"164\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Send the file to the individual that needs to sign the document. Or, if you\u2019re the one signing the document, read on.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sign_Your_Word_or_Excel_File_With_Your_Digital_Signature\"><\/span>Sign Your Word or Excel File With Your Digital Signature<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you don\u2019t already have a digital signature, you\u2019ll receive a prompt from Office telling you that you\u2019ll need one to sign to document whenever you double-click the signature line. Office will also ask if you\u2019d like to get one from a Microsoft Partner in the prompt.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759682 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Get-a-Digital-ID-message..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Get a Digital ID message.\" width=\"631\" height=\"107\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you select \u201cYes,\u201d it will bring you to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/find-digital-id-or-digital-signature-services-b06cfc76-56a1-4a74-b2dd-91a55de79cdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official support site<\/a>, where it explains the benefits of a digital ID, along with a couple of recommended certified authorities that are qualified to issue digital certificates. In the documentation are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/shop.globalsign.com\/en\/digital-signatures-microsoft-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GlobalSign<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.identrust.com\/certificates\/secure-email-smime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IdenTrust<\/a>, but there are many others to choose from.<\/p>\n<p>A digital ID from a certified authority is different from a hand-written signature because it adds code to the document that shows that it was actually you, not someone pretending to be you, that signed the document.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0You can create your own digital certificate by running SELFCERT.EXE in the Office installation folder. However, this doesn\u2019t verify your identity like a signature from a certified authority would, as fraudsters can also create this type of certificate using your name. As a form of security, if you use a digital certificate that you created yourself, a warning banner will be added to the document.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To insert this digital signature, double-click the signature line. A pop-up dialog will appear. Here, click \u201cSign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759693 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Sign-with-your-digital-signature..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Sign with your digital signature.\" width=\"462\" height=\"157\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The document is now signed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759694 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Your-digital-signature..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Your digital signature.\" width=\"311\" height=\"180\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To remove that signature, just edit the document. Once the document has been edited, the signature is automatically removed. This is to protect the authenticity of the document and also to protect the person who signed the original document.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759700 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/2021-10-05_16h42_20.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"A warning message stating the signature will be removed when edited.\" width=\"444\" height=\"122\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re wanting to insert a drawn or typed signature, you\u2019re free to do that as well. While it doesn\u2019t prove the authenticity of the signature, there are several sites out there that allow you to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.signwell.com\/online-signature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">draw or type a signature<\/a>, and then download it as an image. From there, you would simply\u00a0insert the image\u00a0in the document with Insert &gt; Picture and then click and drag it to the signature line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>How to Insert a Picture or Other Object in Microsoft Office<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For it to work properly, be sure to click the Format Options icon to the right of the image, and then click the \u201cIn Front of Text\u201d text-wrapping option.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759683 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Sign-the-signature-line..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Sign the signature line.\" width=\"584\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To remove this signature, just select the signature by clicking it with your mouse and then press the Delete key.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Add_an_Invisible_Signature_in_Word_Excel_and_PowerPoint\"><\/span>Add an Invisible Signature in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can also add an invisible signature to your document. This protects the authenticity of the content within the document. And unlike the feature to insert a signature line, you can add an invisible signature to your PowerPoint presentations.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, you must have a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/find-digital-id-or-digital-signature-services-b06cfc76-56a1-4a74-b2dd-91a55de79cdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">digital signature from a certified authority<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>First, open the Word document, Excel spreadsheet, or PowerPoint presentation that you\u2019d like to add the invisible signature to, and then click the \u201cFile\u201d tab.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759685 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Click-File..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"291\" height=\"159\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, click \u201cInfo\u201d in the left-hand pane.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759686 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Click-Info..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"137\" height=\"291\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The text will be different for the next step depending on which app you\u2019re using. If you\u2019re working in Excel, click \u201cProtect Workbook.\u201d If you\u2019re using PowerPoint, click \u201cProtect Presentation.\u201d Or, if you\u2019re using Word, click \u201cProtect Document.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759687 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Click-Protect-Document-in-the-Info-section..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"194\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now click \u201cAdd a Digital Signature\u201d in the drop-down menu that appears.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759689 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Click-Add-a-Digital-Signature..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"310\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From there, you\u2019ll need to use the digital signature that you acquired from the certified authority. If you already have your digital signature, all you\u2019ll need to do now is click \u201cSign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-759691 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Click-Sign-to-sign-the-document..png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"162\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once signed, a banner will appear at the top of the document saying that it contains a signature.<\/p>\n<p>To remove this signature, all you need to do is edit the document. Once the document is edited, the signature becomes invalid. While signing a document isn\u2019t necessarily hard, there are a couple of layers of validity here.
