The 49-year-old actress, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) a few years ago, makes joke after joke as she <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lies her makeup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKim Kardashian sent me some makeup. I\u2019m going to do a shoutout to her \u2019cause, God knows, no one knows who she is,\u201d Blair quips as she glides a dark shade from the influencer across her lips. She moves on to painting her brows, saying, \u201cMore is more, especially when you have no eyelashes,\u201d and \u201cI feel like Cruella, but I feel good in this choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But then, after several minutes of banter, while clad in an animal-print dress and a sparkly turban, Blair grows suddenly tired. She was never the perky blonde star, but rather the darker, more intriguing supporting character with a lithe glamour, simmering intelligence and stealthy gaze. She went on to have a successful TV career, appearing in shows such as \u201cAnger Management,\u201d \u201cKath &amp; Kim\u201d and \u201cThe People v. O.J. Two months later, she candidly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BpKjP_7FnWQ\/?utm_medium=copy_link\">shared the news on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cI am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it,\u201d she wrote. \u201cAnd I laugh and I don\u2019t know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best.\u201d The revealing post currently has over 116,000 likes.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than hide, Blair sought to show the world the realities and possibilities of living with a disability. She accessorized with chic canes and walked the red carpet at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscar party in a fabulous Ralph &amp; Russo black-and-pastel gown with a coordinating cape.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>But her symptoms continued to worsen despite medication, so in 2019, she made the decision to undergo a stem cell transplant in Chicago at Northwestern University. The relatively new, multistep procedure involves receiving a heavy round of chemotherapy to kill off the body\u2019s unhealthy immune system, as MS is a disease in which the body attacks its own central nervous system. Then, once a patient\u2019s immunity is near zero, they receive an infusion of healthy stem cells that have been previously harvested from the patient themselves or a donor, with the goal of the body building a new, more functional immune system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since 1995, more than 3,000 patients with autoimmune diseases have undergone stem cell transplants. The disease can\u2019t be fully cured, but, after two years, 83% of MS patients who underwent the procedure had no evidence of disease activity, and after five years, 67% were still in remission. But the treatment is also grueling and risky. In early trials, the fatality rate was over 7%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>As Blair prepared for the treatment, documenting the journey seemed fitting, and a mutual friend connected her to Fleit in April 2019. The two hit it off and they started making the film the next month. Both appreciate gallows humor, and Fleit struggles with an autoimmune disease of her own. She has alopecia and has been bald her whole life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelma im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely connected our autoimmune things,\u201d the filmmaker recalled. \u201cShe was like, \u2018You\u2019re bald and I have MS. Beforehand, Blair has to say goodbye to her son, Arthur, then 8 years old. She feels horrible physically, but she summons the energy for a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> of dodgeball and dance party to Usher\u2019s \u201cYeah!\u201d before his departure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t twerk with MS,\u201d she says, but puts forth an impressive effort.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When Arthur\u2019s father, designer Jason Bleick, comes to pick him up, it\u2019s one of the film\u2019s more emotional moments.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArthur, if you ever feel like calling me, awesome,\u201d she tells him. \u201cIf you don\u2019t, I totally get it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBye, tomato head,\u201d he calls back to her, as she waves and cries from a distance, unsure when she\u2019ll see him again.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the film, Blair and Arthur are reunited in Chicago while she\u2019s receiving treatment. In one section of the film, the actress leafs through old magazines and holds up a 1999 issue of \u201cSeventeen\u201d where she was featured on the cover. She recalls how her mom, always critical, told her she looked \u201cso unimportant\u201d on the magazine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mother tethered a darkness to me,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s all about my mom. It\u2019s never good enough, and it never will be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But she ultimately comes to terms not only with her disease but also with her mother\u2019s negativity and its impact on her sense of self.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As she is undergoing the final phases of her transplant, her mother is dying and Blair prays for both of them, asking for her mother not to be afraid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m embarrassed to say, [but] I\u2019m at peace,\u201d Blair later says. \u201cI have huge moments where I\u2019m not, but overall, I\u2019m at peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The stem cell transplant is ultimately successful, but it\u2019s not quite the miracle cure that Blair hoped it would be. At the close of the film, she\u2019s able to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CRZae7WlHvW\/?utm_medium=copy_link\">return to riding her beloved horse<\/a> but she still faces challenges.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s like the rest of us, just getting through the day, good days and bad days,\u201d Fleit said. \u201cThis isn\u2019t a sad story.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async defer src=\"https:\/\/platform.instagram.com\/en_US\/embeds.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
