But Towfiq said the netting blocked his view \u2014 and complained to city officials.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Gross and Towfiq have been locked in a bitter battle in what\u2019s otherwise a quiet coastal city known for its art galleries and waterfront restaurants.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Towfiq complained that Gross would obnoxiously blare the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a> song of \u201cGilligan\u2019s Island\u201d on repeat, while Gross countered in court that Towfiq was a \u201cpeeping Tom\u201d who \u201cwatched, leered at, photographed, and videotaped\u201d the Grosses.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the 23,000-person city by the sea, where the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>n home-selling price is $3 million, is in the spotlight for its two enfants terribles with too much time and money on their hands.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cEverybody thinks it\u2019s ridiculous,\u201d one longtime Laguna resident told The Post. \u201cThis whole thing is a waste of money, time and energy. They\u2019re not exactly the fabric of our community.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then again, squabbles among the \u00fcber wealthy are not that uncommon here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of neighbors in Laguna Beach sue each other over tiny things,\u201d Lisa Elias, a 53-year-old dog walker and longtime resident who used to work in a local law firm, told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s usually something like, \u2018A wall is an inch over on my property, so you need to tear it down.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Or, \u201c\u2018My son is allergic to the pepper tree in your backyard. The 10,000-square-foot estate boasts an eight-person commercial elevator, a gym, a spa and a wine-display room.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after moving in, he threw a 50th birthday party for Amy there and even hired Kenny Loggins to put on a backyard concert for guests.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the bash, Gross sang \u201cCelebrate Me Home\u201d to Schwartz, whom he wed this past April.<\/p>\n<p>Towfiq \u2014 also a Laguna Beach newcomer, having finished building his home on the adjacent property in 2015 \u2014\u00a0took in the show and was apparently entertained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMark enjoyed the concert and sent Amy a text the next day,\u201d a source close to the Grosses said. (Towfiq himself said in court last year he had hoped to have \u201ca friendly relationship\u201d with his new neighbors.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But any initial pleasantries were fleeting.<\/p>\n<p>The following year, Gross installed the Chihuly sculpture close to the wall and the row of hedges that separate his house from Towfiq\u2019s. (The source close to the Grosses insists that the only view it obscured was that of the Grosses\u2019 home.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ignored by the Grosses, Towfiq promptly took his grievances to the city of Laguna Beach, which sent the couple a notice of violation: Both the artwork and netting required permits.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s when things got interesting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a millionaire going to war with a billionaire,\u201d said the source close to Gross.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>Gross is the co-founder and former chairman of Pacific Investment Management Company, better known as PIMCO, once considered the world\u2019s largest mutual fund. In 2019, he famously revealed he has Asperger syndrome \u2014 a high-functioning form of autism marked by social awkwardness and a tendency to fixate on particular subjects \u2014 to Bloomberg Television.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sort of proud of it, because it explains a lot about me \u2026 It\u2019s allowed me to stay at 30,000 feet as opposed to being on the ground,\u201d Gross said of his diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>Still, he admitted that it probably contributed to his notorious temper. Both sides requested restraining orders against each other.<\/p>\n<p>Towfiq said in court he set up one of the cameras only to prove that the Grosses had ignored the order from city officials to remove the netting. Yes, we are. Yes, we are. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We\u2019re outside. Yes, we are!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Knill called it \u201cappalling\u201d and sentenced the pair to five days in jail for violating the court restraining order.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The source close to the Grosses explained Amy\u2019s bizarre behavior: \u201cThe point of that was for Amy to make a recording showing that, \u2018I\u2019m following the rules of the restraining order.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis incident, the judge\u2019s obvious bias and the enormous amount of wasted time and money on music played below the legal 60 decibel level at 9:15 in the evening constitute a miscarriage of justice, let alone a travesty of prejudice,\u201d Bill Gross said in a statement to The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Towfiq isn\u2019t winning any Neighbor of the Year awards, either.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After he bought his Irvine Cove property in 2009, Towfiq became entangled in litigation with Michael Wilson, his immediate neighbor to the north, who took the techie to court over his construction plans. Towfiq hoped to demolish three existing structures and erect a new cliffside home that would <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lagunabeachindy.com\/court-sanctions-rockledge-development\/\">partially obscure Wilson\u2019s view<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After two years of fighting, Towfiq won a county ruling in 2011 and started building his modernist home with a 2,000-square-foot covered patio, infinity pool and panoramic ocean views.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hate to be bullied,\u201d Towfiq reportedly said at the time. \u201cThis is our right to build this house. This is our dream house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Added Towfiq\u2019s lawyer, Chase Scolnick: \u201cThis is terrible and unfortunate that their dream house has turned into a nightmare.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
