Chief Executive Pat Gelsinger still hopes to win back Apple Inc. as a customer, but says Intel will have to outcompete the tech giant to do so.<\/p>\n<p> In an interview aired Sunday night on \u201cAxios on HBO,\u201d Gelsinger told Axios reporter Ina Fried that he doesn\u2019t blame Apple<br \/>\n        AAPL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202934861\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.75%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       for dropping Intel<br \/>\n        INTC,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203649727\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.04%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and deciding to make its own chips.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       \u201cApple decided they could do a better chip themselves than we could,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd, you know, they did a pretty good job. So what I have to do is create a better chip than they can do themselves. Intel already makes chips for Amazon.com Inc.<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.31%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Qualcomm Inc.<br \/>\n        QCOM,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/206679220\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.20%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       among others.<\/p>\n<p>Intel is scheduled to report quarterly earnings Thursday. Analysts expect nearly flat earnings and revenue compared with a year ago.
