Working with these musicians also gave Six some insight into how the US was handling the pandemic compared to the local response.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWith Baji [ETC], I\u2019d call him at the weirdest hours of the morning just to talk about the recording process.\u201d Baji and Six, who\u2019ve known each other since Six\u2019s days in Bacolod, played around with the idea of working on something for years. They were already crafting tracks for Deja Vu\u2019s album <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/1Z11fk07vCJDHyfZL3pTiB?si=UxvLqfMmR7uaA6NG8mPE4g&amp;dl_branch=1\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loverboy<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pre-pandemic but the process sped up during the lockdown in the Philippines early in 2020. \u201cI liked how he pushed me in a musical direction that I wouldn\u2019t normally go to if I was working on my own. It got really busy with us given that I had so much time on my hands and was staying at home for the entirety of April and May.\u201d Deja Vu also remembers them using Discord to communicate.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Relying_on_Old_Friends_and_New_Equipment\"><\/span><strong>Relying on Old Friends and New Equipment<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But when Six could go to work again at his day job, time management did become more challenging.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDuring 2020, I realized how much music I was working on,\u201d he says. On top of his collaborations with Baji and Deja Vu, Six has also worked on several local collaborations\u2014with 8th Messenger, Eli, and Railkid, among others. \u201cI needed to track most of my beats to digital so I invested in recording equipment given I would deal with standalone and analog gear more. He says that during these times, music is an excellent channel to discuss your observations through words.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, not all musicians are certain that the music industry will survive the pandemic\u2014even though music is therapeutic. Deja Vu says, \u201cThe pandemic was disastrous for the music industry. Touring was canceled, appearances were canceled, and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> distancing limited interaction with other musicians. The pandemic restricted <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>. I would have flown to the Philippines to work with Six The Northstar personally.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Six doesn\u2019t mention touring at all, it is also part of his life in the Philippines. NINNO shares that some of his favorite memories with Six were when they were on tour: \u201cFrom our tours in Cebu and Bacolod\u2014where we found out that the only Ilonggo word our Shadow Moses bandmate Vic knows is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">duha<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which means the number two\u2014all the way to performing in MOA arena, there\u2019s just way too many dope memories with Six.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Shadow Moses - Remember The Titans\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LQWC9SPqtFQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; Everyone\u2019s trying to release content because everyone\u2019s at home. That results in more jobs for the audio industry.\u201d He says that he made more money in music in 2020 than any other year. He didn\u2019t find working on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mga Kahon Mula Bodega<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> difficult during the pandemic, at all, and he found Six\u2019s energy almost contagious.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Exactly_Did_Six_The_NorthStar_Work_With_Multiple_Artists\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Exactly Did Six The NorthStar Work With Multiple Artists?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How does Six match other musician\u2019s sounds in collaborations while remaining true to his own sound? While his energy to make music can be contagious, Six seems to put all of that passion into matching what an artist needs from his beats. \u201cDefinitely, there was some vibe that was converging among the collaborative projects but I was really making sure that each one didn\u2019t sound like the other,\u201d he says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWith Eli, we focused on different soundscapes\u2014like each track definitely not sounding like the one next to it.\u201d Eli, Six asserts, is Makati\u2019s best-kept secret. He met Eli while playing random beats at Black Market\u2014Eli spit a few bars over Six\u2019s music and Six knew the rapper needed his own proper album. They planned to work throughout 2019, but because of the pandemic, the album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Optics<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is coming out this November 2021. They have released the song \u201c<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/4wBgchP57RRTmP5nF2KGQY?si=1wanuiFGSheHejCnG24Xbg&amp;dl_branch=1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">80proof<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d with Yorko, though. Six also produced and performed \u201cEuphoria\u201d with Eli last October at Purveyr\u2019s Sound Fiesta <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> as it launched its third season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Euphoria by Eli and Six the Northstar \u2014 Sound Fiesta\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VXGP-hpdmPo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWith 8th Messenger, I was a bit more inclined to imagine how people envision whenever he is on the mic,\u201d As a Pamilia Dimagiba fan, Six wanted the influence of the group\u2014of which 8th Messenger is part of\u2014and the production work of DJ Arbie Won had on his perspective on music to shine through. Six actually met 8th Messenger in 2012, when the latter came back to Manila after being an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). They met at Arbie\u2019s record store and had been planning to work on music together ever since.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The beginnings of the album <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sixthenorthstar.bandcamp.com\/album\/the-8th-messenger-six-the-northstar-isang-libong-taon\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isang Libong Taon<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> began pre-pandemic. \u201cThe first recording sesh was at Liquid\u2019s studio during December 2019, but progress was halted,\u201d 8th Messenger notes. However, pandemic travel precautions soon lifted. This was the idea behind \u201cSecret Avengers.\u201d Lloyd of The Pharm is now settled in Australia but is one of Six\u2019s oldest friends, Raw Meta Fuego was somebody he was around during the earlier Fliptop days, and NINNO is his Shadow Moses bandmate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/46D4LDHtXDHLyyIC68JViR\" width=\"100%\" height=\"80\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Six ended up taking the reins during the collaboration. \u201cI was up on all of them and just followed up on where they were with their verse\u2014like I was some agent following up on some contract. Comes with the territory! If you want something done, you gotta put hella work on it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Trusting_the_Feel\"><\/span><strong>Trusting the Feel<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How does Six know which beat he makes belongs to which collaborative artist? He says, \u201cThere ain\u2019t really no <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> to eat\u2014you know what I mean? I\u2019d wake up, fire up the MPC or whatever and just make beats from records I got from some digging mission I did over the weekend.\u201d To find his groove and survive during the pandemic, he did what was most intuitive. Recording, mixing and mastering was in June to July, and then it was released in August).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Beyond_the_Pandemic_Whats_Next_for_Six_The_Northstar\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond the Pandemic: What\u2019s Next for Six The Northstar?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pandemic has been going on for so long that some of Six\u2019s collaborations with artists have spawned further projects. For example, he\u2019s worked on a second album with Deja Vu\u2014<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/0QF4Vd8tVHUzPb8Ci9miZz?si=gmEmuHVpRc2ukiuIHmARuA&amp;dl_branch=1\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Glow<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, released within the first two weeks of 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Solo_Releases\"><\/span><strong>Solo Releases<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, what his fans can look forward to in the future is a welcome surprise. Six The Northstar is coming out with the third volume of his <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SixTrueMentals<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> series of albums. Each volume marks certain aspects, events, and emotions of his life\u2014in fact, Six calls them \u201ca diary in the form of sound.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SixTrueMentals Vol. 3<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is, at least, partly about the pandemic. Six says of \u201c<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/100wTuRSgKyyCX3VmxsTcs?si=q3Q1CplqQHmuIA62ek7z7Q&amp;dl_branch=1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desire<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d the album\u2019s lead single, \u201cI felt like it represented my thoughts on hope and change. Not to get deep into a commentary of what is happening around right now, but I feel\u2014on a personal level at least\u2014that I need to remind myself that things are going to turn around for me\u2026 for everybody.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=1439339270\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sixthenorthstar.bandcamp.com\/album\/sixtruementals-vol-3\">SixTrueMentals Vol.3 by Six The Northstar<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The album was released digitally on September 19, and a vinyl release is planned for December 2021. Six hosted an online album listening party for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SixTrueMentals Vol. 3<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/manilacommunityradio.live\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manila Community Radio<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, digital content of which should be uploaded on different platforms soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Collaborative_Releases\"><\/span><strong>Collaborative Releases<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along with working with Eli on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Optics<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Six is also working with Railkid again\u2014on a full album this time, to be released in 2022\u2014while juggling other projects that have yet to be named or scheduled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In some sense, Six The Northstar seems to have traced a musical path during this pandemic that mirrors his entire journey\u2014so far\u2014as a musician. Amazing as a solo artist but excellent as a team player has always been Six\u2019s signature.
