As you no doubt know by now, it\u2019s YOUR fault that the planet is getting hotter and the world is ending. But don\u2019t worry, there\u2019s a way you can assuage some of that guilt without even leaving your car. In fact, please stay right there, in your car.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Amsterdam and Helsinki are two of my favorite\u00a0smart cities.\u00a0Researchers are looking for local car drivers to help make these cities more liveable.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/l8c5ayh3on?videoFoam=true&amp;autoPlay=true\" title=\"\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" allowfullscreen=\"\" msallowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The project is called <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.codethestreets.eu\/\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Code the Streets<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. They\u2019re seeking car drivers to test new functions in the traffic navigation <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.tomtom.speedcams.android.map&amp;hl=en&amp;gl=US\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">TomTomAmiGO<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and Mercedes-Benz\u2018s\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/mb.navigation.com\/home\/en_US\/MBNA\/USD\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">navigation<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0planner. The aim is to understand better how to route motorists in a more environmentally aware way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Getting people to change their habitual car-driving routes is hard. Incentives must be situation-specific and offered in real-time, while driving.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Code_the_Streets_for_sustainable_routing\"><\/span>Code the Streets for sustainable routing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In creating this pilot, cities and service providers have built an open application programming interface (API). It allows cities to communicate directly with car drivers via the service providers. This makes it possible to nudge drivers to choose alternative sustainable routes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The pilot focuses on guiding car drivers away from areas traditionally congested or with poor air quality. Drivers receive data about school zones, traffic jams, environmental zones, and vulnerable infrastructure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The pilot planners believe that digital tools are also a catalyst for repurposing public space for different uses at different times. Imagine, for example, that a traditional car driving road changes to a bicycle lane in the afternoon and a terrace in the evening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The initiative is a collaboration effort.
