<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       Netflix Inc. experienced a bounce in profit and subscriber additions as it found its biggest surprise success yet in the third quarter, but predictions for the holiday season were not as bountiful. <\/p>\n<p> Netflix<br \/>\n        NFLX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202353025\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.16%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       on Tuesday reported 4.4 million net new paid subscribers in the third quarter, eclipsing its own forecast (3.5 million) as well as the average analyst forecast of 3.78 million, according to FactSet, and giving the streaming-video service 213.6 million subscribers overall. Executives said they expect 8.5 million new subscribers in the fourth quarter, when new content is set to join Netflix\u2019s biggest original hit yet, \u201cSquid Game,\u201d which would match the performance of last year\u2019s holiday quarter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       The average analyst estimate for fourth quarter subscriber additions was 8.4 million, but many analysts expected Netflix to surpass that number handily in their guidance Tuesday. Stifel analyst Scott Devitt, for example, said he expected more than 10 million new subscribers in the fourth quarter as Netflix \u201csuccessfully releases compelling original content, broadens its international penetration, and enters a seasonally favorable period for sub adds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The global hit <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> \u201cSquid Game,\u201d an international megahit estimated to be worth nearly $900 million to the company according to a recent\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-10-17\/squid-game-season-2-series-worth-900-million-to-netflix-so-far?sref=Oeyjq8by\" class=\"icon none\">Bloomberg News<\/a> report, is a major reason for an expected turnaround through the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix has maintained a wide subscriber edge in a crowded streaming market that includes rivals Walt Disney Co.<br \/>\n        DIS,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203410047\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.02%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le Inc.<br \/>\n        AAPL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202934861\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.51%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0AT&amp;T Inc.<br \/>\n        T,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203165245\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.03%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0Comcast Corp.<br \/>\n        CMCSA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209472081\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.92%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0Amazon.com Inc.<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.08%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and ViacomCBS Inc.<br \/>\n        VIAC,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200340870\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.40%<\/bg-quote><span>.<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0But with a fresh batch of wildly popular content joining \u201cSquid Game\u201d this quarter, including new seasons of previous hits \u201cThe Witcher\u201d and \u201cTiger King,\u201d Netflix is expected to storm back the rest of the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For more: Can \u2018Squid Game\u2019 and videogames be game-changers for Netflix?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter a lighter-than-normal content slate in Q1 and Q2 due to COVID-related production delays in 2020, we are seeing the positive effects of a stronger slate in the second half of the year,\u201d company executives said in a letter to shareholders Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter, executives called \u201cSquid Game\u201d \u201cour biggest TV show ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA mind-boggling 142m member households globally have chosen to watch the title in its first four weeks,\u201d they wrote, while adding that they are rushing out merchandise tied to the show. \u201cThe breadth of Squid Game\u2019s popularity is truly amazing; this show has been ranked as our #1 program in 94 countries (including the U.S.)\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Netflix said it earned $1.45 billion, or $3.19 a share, up from $1.74 a share a year ago and easily topping expectations of $2.57 a share, according to analysts polled by FactSet. Netflix\u2019s revenue catapulted to $7.48 billion, up from $6.44 billion a year ago and matching Street estimates of $7.48 billion.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Netflix shares rose nearly 2% in after-hours trading im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely following the announcement Tuesday, but the gains sank back to less than 1% as the extended trading session continued. The stock is up 17% so far this year, while the broader S&amp;P 500 index<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.74%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has improved 20% in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The expectations for fourth-quarter gains doesn\u2019t necessarily mean smooth sailing for Netflix, which faces a torrent of criticism over its defense of comedian Dave Chapelle\u2019s controversial special. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMedia and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> platforms like Netflix, Facebook<br \/>\n        FB,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205064656\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.39%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       and others need to be held accountable for their role in pushing content that promotes hate, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny and harmful stereotypes,\u201d Common Sense CEO James P. Steyer said in a statement mirroring <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> sentiment about Netflix.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, rival Disney has warned pandemic-related production delays may undercut Disney+ subscriber numbers for the current quarter, prompting Barclays analyst Kannan Venkateshwar to caution the media empire could face \u201cstructural\u201d problems in its streaming operations.
