Today, we\u2019re watching a video essay on the rise and decline of movie opening credits sequences.&lt;\/em&gt;\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Okay, so opening credits sequences aren\u2019t <em>totally <\/em>a thing of the past. The past decade has graced us with a solid handful of righteous titles sequences. I thoroughly enjoyed Randall Balsmeyer\u2019s titles for the Safdie brothers\u2019 <strong><em>Uncut Gems<\/em><\/strong>: a journey through an abstract, crystalline space later revealed to be our protagonist\u2019s colon. Likewise, Galen Johnson\u2019s credits for <strong><em>The Forbidden Room <\/em><\/strong>are a top-tier silent era pastiche and an immaculate mood-setter for the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>py absurdist \u201clost films\u201d love letter to follow. \u00a0And while most (read: basically all) Marvel <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> have forgone the opening credits altogether, the <em><strong>Guardians of the Galaxy<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>films feature two of the most memorable sequences in their weight class.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, indelibly, over the past few decades, opening credits sequences have fallen out of style. More often than not, movies eschew the practice altogether, relegating everything to the end. You know, when most people stop paying attention to the screen, chat with their neighbors, or close their streaming tabs? The great tradition of starting movies with a flourish is linked to a series of less artistically inclined trends, from unions to the decline of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>reels. And as the video essay below details, their rise and decline effectively follow the degree to which they were deemed \u201cessential.\u201d And considering that, with a few exceptions, opening titles are purely reserved for tone, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a>, and style, they were easy fat to trim.<\/p>\n<p>The essay provides a concise history of the opening credits sequence, including their innovative heyday in the mid-1950s to the early 1970s. It\u2019s a little depressing to think about what we\u2019ve lost in jettisoning this sense of showmanship. Perhaps it\u2019s not unrelated <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/7vfqkvwW2fs\">that hummable film scores are becoming rarer and rarer<\/a>.
