There are reasons to wonder.<\/p>\n<p>Take, for starters, the fact that the character was\u00a0<em>not\u00a0<\/em>killed off. Instead, he\u2019s off to Oregon and theoretically, he\u2019s only making a commitment there for a few years. There could be a chance that he comes back in the right situation, right? There\u2019s always Severide\u2019s wedding or some sort of other huge milestone; personally, we don\u2019t get the sense that Casey is gone for good.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, this seems to be corroborated somewhat by Spencer himself. Speaking via <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tvline.com\/2021\/10\/20\/jesse-spencer-leaving-chicago-fire-matt-casey-season-10-interview\/\">TVLine<\/a>, the actor made it clear that there are logistical reasons why he could come back around later:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cThere is the potential for me to come back. I still am in Chicago right now. I\u2019m not running off to Los Angeles or anything, although I might escape for a little bit of the winter \u2026 My home here with my wife is in Chicago, and so I\u2019m still going to be here, but I\u2019m just stepping back for right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Our feeling is that Spencer could return once every couple of seasons provided that the story is right. It\u2019s going to be hard to make him some permanent fixture again given that you can\u2019t just flutter a former cast member in and out all of the time. However, it at least seems like there\u2019s still a good relationship between him and the show.
