“#Rust Tragedy: Brandon Lee\u2019s Family & More React To Halyna Hutchins’ Death

\nWe are all still reeling at the death of Halyna Hutchins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As we previously reported, the cinematographer passed away after an incident with a prop gun fired by Alec Baldwin <\/strong>on set of the film Rust<\/em>. Director Joel Souza<\/strong> was also injured, but Halyna was pronounced dead after being airlifted off the set to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.<\/p>\n

As Hollywood tries to make sense of the tragedy, Twitter<\/a><\/strong> has seen an outpouring of both confusion and condolences for Halyna and her loved ones. The official account of Brandon Lee<\/strong>, who died in a similar on-set incident in 1993, shared:<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on \u2018Rust.\u2019 No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period. \u201c<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Director Elle Schneider<\/strong> wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cSick and devastated to hear that my friend and rockstar cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on set today in New Mexico. I don\u2019t have words to describe this tragedy. I want answers. I want her family to somehow find peace among this horrific, horrific loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Joe Manga<\/a>niello<\/strong> also paid tribute to the 42-year-old:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in shock. I was so lucky to have had Halyna Hutchins as my DP on Archenemy. An incredible talent & great person. I can\u2019t believe this could happ<\/a>en in this day and age\u2026 gunfire from a prop gun could kill a crew member? What a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to her family.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The incident unsurprisingly affected many film professionals, even those who did not know Halyna personally, like directors James Gunn<\/strong> and Paul Feig<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

My greatest fear is that someone will be fatally hurt on one of my sets. I pray this will never happen. My heart goes out to all of those affected by the tragedy today on Rust, especially Halyna Hutchins & her family.<\/p>\n
