{"id":356892,"date":"2021-10-22T22:44:27","date_gmt":"2021-10-22T19:44:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/new-facebook-whistleblower-accuses-company-of-ignoring-hate-speech\/"},"modified":"2021-10-22T22:44:27","modified_gmt":"2021-10-22T19:44:27","slug":"new-facebook-whistleblower-accuses-company-of-ignoring-hate-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/new-facebook-whistleblower-accuses-company-of-ignoring-hate-speech\/","title":{"rendered":"#New Facebook whistleblower accuses company of ignoring hate speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#New <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> whistleblower accuses company of ignoring hate speech<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>There\u2019s more trouble in Zuck-town.<\/p>\n<p>A new Facebook whistleblower has reportedly emerged, dishing to US regulators that an official at the social network in 2017 blew off concerns about hate speech as a \u201cflash in the pan,\u201d adding that while \u201csome legislators will get pissy\u201d Facebook is \u201cprinting money in the basement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new whistleblower told the Securities and Exchange Commission under penalty of perjury that the company has constantly shrugged off concerns about hate speech and misinformation in pursuit of growth, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2021\/10\/22\/facebook-new-whistleblower-complaint\/?outputType=amp\">the Washington Post reported<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Like Frances Haugen, another former Facebook employee-turned-whisteblower who testified in Congress earlier this month, the new whistleblower is reportedly an ex-member of the company\u2019s \u201cintegrity team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new whistleblower, whose name has not been disclosed, reportedly told the SEC that Facebook executives undermined attempts to fight misinformation and hate speech during the Trump administration because they thought such efforts would slow the company\u2019s growth \u2014 and because they were afraid of the president and his political allies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-15.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19895027\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-15.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-15.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-15.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Tucker Bounds<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Facebook leadership also had a blas\u00e9 attitude about legislators\u2019 efforts to investigate the company, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be a flash in the pan. Some legislators will get pissy,\u201d Facebook communications official Tucker Bounds said in 2017, according to the reported whistleblower. \u201cAnd then in a few weeks they will move on to something else. Meanwhile we are printing money in the basement, and we are fine.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A source who worked at Facebook at the same time the whistleblower was there told The New York Post that the alleged quote from Bounds sounds accurate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s how Tucker talks,\u201d the former employee said. \u201cThe Tucker quote, as much as I disagree with it, really does reflect the attitude during 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bounds and the SEC did not immediately reply to requests for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-09.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" alt=\"Frances Haugen\" class=\"wp-image-19893465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-09.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1000w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-09.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=500 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\"\/><figcaption>Like Frances Haugen, another former Facebook employee-turned-whisteblower who testified in Congress earlier this month, the new whistleblower is reportedly an ex-member of the company\u2019s integrity team.\u00a0<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Facebook spokeswoman Erin McPike said in a statement that the story was \u201cbeneath the Washington Post, which during the last five years would only report stories after deep reporting with corroborating sources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new whistleblower also said that Facebook\u2019s public policy team defended maintaining a \u201cwhite list\u201d of Trump-friendly websites including Breitbart <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>, which the company exempted from its rules against spreading false news news, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>When Facebook public policy chief Joel Kaplan was questioned about the whitelist, he reportedly responded by saying, \u201cDo you want to start a fight with Steve Bannon?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Kaplan said in an emailed statement to The New York Post, \u201cThere has never been a whitelist that exempts publishers, including Breitbart, from Facebook\u2019s rules against misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1000\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19894700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1000w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/facebook-whistleblowers-hate-03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=500 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\"\/><figcaption>Frances Haugen delivered her testimony on how Facebook affects children on Capitol Hill on Oct. 5.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But the former Facebook employee told The New York Post that the whistleblower was accurately describing the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach to content moderation during the Trump administration \u2014 including the Breitbart exemption.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s how Facebook ran during the Trump administration,\u201d the former employee said. \u201cThey broke the rules and did whatever they needed to keep him and his preferred news sources happy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was not in that purported meeting but that\u2019s exactly something that Joel Kaplan would say on a call,\u201d the former employee added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>The new whistleblower appears to have worked with a group called the Alliance to Counter Crime Online, which said on Twitter that it submitted the whistleblower\u2019s tip to the SEC on Friday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur filing shows that #Facebook security officials realized 10+ yrs ago that they could not remove toxicity on its platforms and remain profitable,\u201d said the group, which is led by ex-ABC News journalist Gretchen Peters.\u00a0\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
