However, Garten didn\u2019t always want to be on camera.<\/p>\n<p>The New York native turned down an offer for her own show from the culinary network several times before agreeing to do it. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor years I said no, and they kept coming back with a better offer,\u201d Garten told MSNBC host Willie Geist during the author luncheon for\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shelterislandpubliclibrary.org\/\">Shelter Island Public Library<\/a><\/p>\n<p>She added that she told the network to \u201close my number\u201d after they offered her a contract. <\/p>\n<p>The cookbook author continued, \u201cI said, \u2018I\u2019m not negotiating, I just don\u2019t think I can do this.&#8217;\u201d Executives were dismayed at Garten\u2019s response and kept on pushing for her participation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said, \u2018People send us hams to even get an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointment to try and get a show,&#8217;\u201d Garten joked. Her show has bene on the air since Nov. 30, 2002and is currently the oldest show on the network\u2019s daytime time slot.<\/p>\n<p>Garten has ran her specialty food store Barefoot Contessa\u00a0in the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/barefootcontessa.com\/inas-world\/if-youre-coming-to-the-hamptons\">Hamptons<\/a> for 20 years and decided to write a cookbook while working.<\/p>\n<p>Telling Geist, \u201cI was like, \u2018I really want to do something challenging now.\u2019 I took a year off, built myself an office over the store, and went there every day trying to figure out what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garten drafted a cookbook proposal with recipes from her store and it was accepted by publishers three days after she sent it out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh s\u2014, now I have to write a book,\u201d\u2018 she recalled. \u201cI love that people are learning how to cook and inviting people over for dinner,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s about community.
