There\u2019s a bird killer on the loose, a vicious murderer with an insatiable bloodlust for endangered species. His name is Elon Musk.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Tesla tycoon hasn\u2019t been doing the dirty work himself, but Musk\u2019s SpaceX is reportedly decimating birds around the company\u2019s facility in Boca Chica, Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n

The surrounding land hosts an array of endangered animals, including sea turtles, ocelots, and hundreds of bird species, including the federally threatened Piper Rover.<\/p>\n

Campaigners warn that SpaceX\u2019s operations are destroying their habitats. According to an analysis by\u00a0<\/span>Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program<\/a>,<\/span> the region\u2019s Piping Plover population has shrunk by 54% in the three years since the arrival of SpaceX.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBoca Chica is incredibly important to birds,\u201d said EJ Williams, the American Bird Conservancy\u2019s (ABC) VP for the Southeast Region, in a statement. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe SpaceX facility in Boca Chica is surrounded by federal and state public lands used by hundreds of thousands of individual birds of many different species throughout the year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Activists have raised concerns about the harm caused by rocket explosions, sonic booms, debris dropping from the sky, and increased traffic in the area. They also worry about the environmental impact of SpaceX\u2019s plans to drill for gas<\/a> in the area.<\/p>\n

SpaceX is expanding its operations in Boca Chica, TX without a complete assessment of environmental impacts. Residents have also accused SpaceX<\/a> of ruining the neighborhood. Musk, however, has previously app<\/a>eared dismissive of the effects on their lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got a lot of land with nobody around, so if it blows up, it\u2019s cool,\u201d he reportedly said<\/a> in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n

Musk may strive to\u00a0<\/span>save humanity by colonizing space<\/a>, but it\u2019s a shame he has to destroy some species on Earth in the process. Flying on SpaceX rockets won\u2019t feel quite as fun if they\u2019ve been built on tiny bird skeletons.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
