\nAlec Baldwin<\/strong> is struggling to come to terms with the Rust<\/em> shooting.<\/p>\n

The death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins<\/strong> due to unclear circumstances surrounding a prop gun was an unthinkable tragedy, so it\u2019s hard to imagine how Alec is coping as the person who fired the shot. Authorities have cautioned that it will take time to investigate exactly what happ<\/a>ened on set of the Western that led to the fatal accident. But nothing will change the fact Alec pulled the trigger.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, the actor is reportedly \u201ccanceling projects\u201d and taking a step back in the wake of the horrific incident. A source for Us Weekly<\/em> revealed:<\/p>\n

\u201cAlec is still absolutely devastated. His shame and depression comes in waves. \u2026 Alec is trying to make this mistake right. When he\u2019s not stricken with grief, he\u2019s trying to make amends.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In a statement following the shooting, the 30 Rock<\/em> alum said that he was \u201cin touch with [Halyna\u2019s] husband, offering my support to him and his family.\u201d But as he works to make amends personally, there are still possible legal consequences in his future, as criminal charges are reportedly \u201con the table.\u201d<\/p>\n

David Ring<\/strong>, a Los Angeles trial attorney, told People<\/em> that it was unlikely that the 63-year-old would be found to \u201chave criminal culpability\u201d in the case. (After all, he was told that the prop being handed to him was a \u201ccold gun,\u201d AKA unloaded.) However, his role as a producer might complicate matters, Ring noted:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s certainly a chance that the authorities say this was such a dangerous operation that whoever\u2019s in charge, including the producer, are somehow criminally liable. That\u2019s a much more difficult case to prove. We\u2019re talking about intent.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Baldwin is one of six producers listed on the film. Though he is an \u201cexecutive producer,\u201d often merely a vanity title given to film stars, for Rust<\/em> that was apparently not the case. The actor reportedly developed the project with director\u00a0Joel Souza<\/strong> (who was also injured in the shooting) and even has a story credit. Still, as an exec producer it\u2019s unlikely he was in charge in any way of day-to-day production decisions.<\/p>\n

However, Ring predicted the It\u2019s Complicated<\/em> star would still probably be named in a wrongful death lawsuit, which has \u201ca much lower standard than a criminal case\u201d to prove negligence.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Us<\/em> insider shared:<\/p>\n

\u201cHilaria is his rock throughout all of this. She\u2019s been by his side, taking care of him and the kids. This has been a grueling week for the entire family.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The mother of six released her own statement regarding the tragedy involving her husband, posting to Instagram<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart is with Halyna. Her husband. Her son. Their family and loved ones. And my Alec. It\u2019s said, \u2018there are no words\u2019 because it\u2019s impossible to express shock and heartache of such a tragic accident. Heartbreak. Loss. Support.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This incident will no doubt have a profound impact on their family, as well as so many people connected to Rust<\/em>. We continue to keep Halyna\u2019s family in our thoughts at this difficult time.<\/p>\n
