If you\u2019d like to adjust your PC\u2019s sleep delay (or turn it off completely), it\u2019s easy to do in Settings. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sleeping_vs_Turning_Off_Your_Screen\"><\/span>Sleeping vs. Turning Off Your Screen<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In Windows 11, sleeping and turning off your screen are two different (but related) things. If you put your PC to sleep, it goes into a low-power mode that temporarily shuts off certain parts of the hardware to save power. While asleep, your PC\u2019s screen will turn off as well.<\/p>\n<p>In Windows 11, you also have the option to turn off your PC\u2019s screen but keep your PC awake in the background. The menu will reveal several options. If you have a battery-powered portable PC or tablet, you\u2019ll see four of them. If you have a desktop PC, you\u2019ll see only two options.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-761358\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/sleep_options.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Expand the &quot;Screen and Sleep&quot; section.\" width=\"650\" height=\"325\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>To adjust how long it takes for your portable PC to go to sleep, click the drop-down menu beside \u201cOn battery power, put my device to sleep after\u201d and select a time period, such as \u201c15 minutes.\u201d You can also choose \u201cNever\u201d to turn off sleep completely when running on battery power.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, to change the sleep delay when your PC is plugged in, use the drop-down menu labeled \u201cWhen plugged in, put my device to sleep after\u201d and choose a time.
