Japanese talent agency\u00a0Aoni Production announced<\/span><\/a> today that voice actor\u00a0Saori Sugimoto<\/strong> passed away on October 21 because of\u00a0congestive heart failure that was due to anorexia.\u00a0Sugimoto<\/strong> was most well known in Japan for voicing many characters in children’s programming, such\u00a0as the voice of both\u00a0Ramurin and Nyakkii in the\u00a0Shimajiro<\/strong><\/em> early-learning franchise, as well as the second generation voice of\u00a0Kisanta Yamamura in the Nintama Rantaro<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0anime<\/a>, taking over the role from\u00a0Tomiko Suzuki<\/strong>, who passed in 2003.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

For western fans, Sugimoto<\/strong> would be recognized as the voice of\u00a0Catherine Bloom in\u00a0Mobile Suit Gundam Wing<\/strong><\/em>, as well as voices in the Ninja Gaiden<\/strong><\/em> OVA and the original Legend of the Galactic Heroes<\/strong><\/em> OVA. Sugimoto<\/strong> also voiced roles in Crayon Shin-chan<\/strong><\/em> and\u00a0Chibi Maruko-chan<\/strong><\/em>, which spanned over three decades. A private funeral was held for family members on October 28.<\/p>\n
