href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/press-releases\/2021\/10\/ftc-report-finds-annual-cigarette-sales-increased-first-time-20\" class=\"icon none\">cigarette sales in the U.S. increased<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> According to the Federal Trade Commission\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/reports\/federal-trade-commission-cigarette-report-2020-smokeless-tobacco-report-2020\/p114508fy20cigarettereport.pdf\" class=\"icon none\">Cigarette Report<\/a>, 203.7 billion cigarettes were sold in 2020, up from 202.9 billion in 2019 \u2014 an increase of 0.4%.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Smoking rates have steadily declined since 2000, and are about 66% lower than they were 50 years ago, according to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/media\/releases\/2019\/p1114-smoking-low.html\" class=\"icon none\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>See also: Boo-ya!
