On Oct. 6,\u00a0Gary Gensler, head of the U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), confirmed during a House Committee on Financial Services hearing that\u00a0the regulator will not ban cryptocurrency, potentially blazing the path for the world\u2019s largest economy to become the global leader in the development of decentralized finance (DeFi) and blockchain technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Gensler, who taught a class on cryptocurrency at MIT, also said that prohibiting cryptocurrency doesn\u2019t fall under the SEC\u2019s mandate and the only way to legally ban digital assets would be through Congress. \u201cIt\u2019s a matter of how we get this field within the investor consumer protection that we have and also working with bank regulators and others \u2014 how do we ensure that the Treasury Department has it within Anti-Money Laundering, tax compliance,\u201d Gensler said. He also added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMany of these tokens do meet the test of being an investment contract, or a note, or a security.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"US_regulators_will_not_ban_cryptocurrencies\"><\/span>U.S. regulators will not ban cryptocurrencies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The SEC\u2019s announcement comes after U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said on Sept. 30 that\u00a0the regulator has no plans to ban\u00a0Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies during testimony in Congress. When asked by Rep. Ted Budd, a longtime advocate for the cryptocurrency sector and a member of the Congressional Blockchain Caucus, whether he intended to \u201cban or limit the use of cryptocurrencies,\u201d Powell\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mxl13yn-eww\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">responded<\/a> with a resounding \u201cNo. [I have] no intention to ban them.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Fed Chair Powell says he has no intention to ban <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bitcoin?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Bitcoin<\/a> and cryptocurrencies \ud83d\ude80\ud83d\ude80\ud83d\ude80<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/i2zfRPk1je\">pic.twitter.com\/i2zfRPk1je<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 theweeknd.eth (@LilMoonLambo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LilMoonLambo\/status\/1443618357723418630?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 30, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Most of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> reports I have been reading are headlined with \u201cThe U.S. will not ban cryptocurrencies.\u201d This is true, but this also means something much more significant: The U.S. will allow cryptocurrency to grow and will embrace the community to be involved in the process of discussing better ways for regulating the industry.<\/p>\n<p>When the largest economy in the world announces that it will allow cryptocurrency to exist with its current financial industry \u2014 of course, with proper regulation \u2014 all other nations should take notice and begin considering opening their doors and regulating the industry in a fair way that spurs innovation and helps to create new jobs.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_US_allows_crypto_as_adoption_increases\"><\/span>The U.S. allows crypto as adoption increases<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As we have been seeing, U.S. regulators are incorporating the cryptocurrency industry into its financial system \u2014 allowing the traditional banking system to work alongside the new and fast-growing decentralized financial system. This could enable the U.S. to become a frontrunner in fintech development, blockchain technologies and even into more unconventional parts of decentralized finance such as insurance, trade finance and fundraising.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Crypto in the crosshairs: US regulators eye the cryptocurrency sector<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From a regulatory standpoint, there is plenty of work that still needs to be done by the cryptocurrency community and the U.S. government to pinpoint where their interest aligns and how they can work tougher, therefore making a smart decision together on how to regulate the industry, including the regulation of stable coins, decentralized exchanges, cryptocurrency derivatives and yield farming, just to name a few.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-10\/eb41ecf6-224c-4eaf-85fa-e4325ccd6586.png\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>It is also very possible that the SEC could <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>rove as many as four Bitcoin futures this fall, based on Bloomberg Intelligence\u2019s count. On Oct. 3, the\u00a0analyst put the chances\u00a0the SEC would approve a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) at 75%, with\u00a0ProShares\u00a0and\u00a0Valkyrie\u00a0already leading the race, getting their approvals coming on Oct. 19 and Oct. 22, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Bitcoin futures ETFs: Good, but not quite there<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_US_set_to_lead_in_blockchain_technologies\"><\/span>The U.S. set to lead in blockchain technologies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s also nice to note that even American lawmakers are buying Bitcoin. U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis\u00a0disclosed that she scooped up\u00a0the world\u2019s largest cryptocurrency on Aug. 16, worth between $50,001 to $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>Since the U.S. government won\u2019t ban cryptocurrencies and American politicians are investing in them, it would be a good idea for all of us to reevaluate our investment portfolios and take a long look at Bitcoin, Ether (ETH) and other new blockchain technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. is clearly signaling that it will embrace and regulate Bitcoin, blockchain <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> and other cryptocurrencies, which from a geopolitical perspective, couldn\u2019t have been more smart \u2014 positioning itself to receive massive foreign investment and attract the best talent on the planet. I expect to see the U.S. become the leader in decentralized finance over the coming years as regulators continue to work with the cryptocurrency community to build a sustainable and secure industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"post-content__disclaimer\"><em>This article does not contain investment advice or recommendations.
