A sculptor who got a $4,000 grant from the city to create a COVID-19 tribute \u2014 but who installed it in Central Park without a permit \u2014 was fuming after the sculpture was removed.<\/p>\n

The Central Park Conservancy took away the heart-shaped COVID-19 sculpture this past week, leaving its creator, Italian artist Sergio Furnari, \u201cheartbroken,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Furnari discovered his \u201cHeroes Heart Monument\u201d missing on Thursday. <\/p>\n

Furnari figured the city funding \u2013 rather than a permit \u2013 would allow the installation and called its removal \u201can abuse of power.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sculptor plans to go to the Central Park Conservancy, which oversees the park, on Monday to discover what happ<\/a>ened to his artwork.<\/p>\n
