While some apps have offered ephemeral messages for years, others have only recently rolled them.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re keen to try them out, we\u2019ve got you covered. Here\u2019s how you can use disappearing messaging in all the major messaging apps that offer them.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"WhatsApp\"><\/span>WhatsApp<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WhatsApp<\/a> may be the world\u2019s popular messenger, but it was a late arrival to the disappearing chats party.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/14nR89kC0mcYU0\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>The company only started rolling out the feature in November 2020 \u2014 and the launch came with a catch. <span>Once the feature is enabled, new messages will <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/faq.whatsapp.com\/general\/chats\/about-disappearing-messages\">stay for seven days before they disappear<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 and this can\u2019t be adjusted.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp says this means you <span>\u201cdon\u2019t forget what you were chatting about\u201d. However, it also leaves your messages exposed for seven days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On the plus side, the feature is easy to enable:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open a WhatsApp chat<\/li>\n<li>Click on the contact\u2019s name<\/li>\n<li>Tap<span\/>Disappearing messages. If prompted, hit Continue<\/li>\n<li>Select On<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Signal\"><\/span>Signal<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Signal has offered vanishing messages since 2016. It also provides way more customization options than WhatsApp.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/3o8doR2qGIXQDGCVoY\" width=\"480\" height=\"363\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>You can make messages disappear after any length of time between one second and four weeks. You can also set a default timer for all your conversations, rather than creating separate ones for every chat. Here\u2019s how to do it:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Setting a default timer<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>For the default timer, open Signal and go to Settings &gt; Privacy<\/li>\n<li>Click on Disappearing messages and select your choice of timer<\/li>\n<li>On Android, hit Save. On iOS, tap Set<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Setting a timer for a specific chat<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Signal and click on a conversation<\/li>\n<li>Tap the contact\u2019s name and select your choice of timer<\/li>\n<li>On Android, hit Save. On iOS, tap Set<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Telegram\"><\/span>Telegram<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span>Telegram\u2019s had a self-destruct timer for encrypted <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/core.telegram.org\/blackberry\/secretchats\">Secret Chats<\/a> since 2013, but only extended the feature to all conversations in February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/pz7X6ivsb8KaEO9D4F\" width=\"480\" height=\"406\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span>You can use the timer to automatically erase messages either 24 hours, seven days, or one month after they\u2019re sent. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Here\u2019s how:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>On <\/span>Android<span>, select a Telegram conversation. Next, tap \u22ee <\/span><em>&gt; <\/em>Clear History,<span> choose a duration, and tap Enable Auto-Delete<\/span><\/li>\n<li>On iOS, click on<span> a Telegram conversation, then tap<\/span> and hold a message. Next, c<span>hoose a duration and tap Done<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Messenger_and_Instagram\"><\/span>Messenger and Instagram<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span>Messenger and Instagram both have a Vanish Mode, which automatically deletes messages after they\u2019re seen and you leave the chat. The feature is suspiciously similar to what\u2019s offered on Snapchat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/SpoV1pB4g7gXvWo3Up\" width=\"480\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span>To turn it on, just enter a chat thread and swipe up. Your screen will go dark to signal the switch. To exist Vanish Mode, just swipe up again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Messenger also has a separate disappearing messages option for encrypted conversations. Here\u2019s how to set it up:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/messenger-app\/811527538946901\">secret conversation<\/a>.
