This week Ford released<\/a> an all-new electric crate motor for DIY enthusiasts who want to build their EV dream car or truck. To show off one of the many possibilities of this $3,900 EV engine, Ford debuted a custom 1978 F-100 pickup highlighting just how capable its e-crate engine can be.<\/p>\n

Forget Tesla. Build your own EV dream car with Ford. The company pulled out the F-100\u2019s original 302 cubic-inch V8 engine and drivetrain and replaced it with a pair of Ford Eluminator e-crate motors that are now on sale to customers. For those wondering, it\u2019s a very similar electric engine to what\u2019s currently in the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition SUV.<\/p>\n

For the stunning custom truck shown here<\/a>, Ford opted to use two motors, each rated at 281 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, giving the classic F-100 a combined output of 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque, which is impressive. And considering each electric motor only weighs about 220 lbs, this truck has some serious get-up.<\/p>\n

The Eluminator e-create engines are priced at $3,900 each<\/a>, but garage builders, DIY types, and those looking to build their own EV will need a few additional parts. The Eluminator e-crate still requires an inverter, battery cells, power controls, and more to be fully operational, which Ford isn\u2019t selling yet. That said, the company did confirm it will soon add more EV parts and accessories to the Ford Performance catalog offering customers a wide range of options.<\/p>\n

For the beautiful F-100 shown above, Ford threw in the same 88 kilowatt-hour battery system from its popular Mustang Mach-E to complete the project, and we\u2019re assuming those types of parts will be available to buyers soon.<\/p>\n
