Adams also doubled down on his plans to make New York the \u201ccenter of the cryptocurrency industry\u201d after he takes office in January. <\/p>\n<p>The clear statement of political support for cryptocurrency came in response to an earlier <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/APompliano\/status\/1455556353129332742?s=20\">tweet<\/a> by Bitcoin podcaster Anthony Pompliano:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWho is going to be the first American politician to accept their salary in bitcoin?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who won reelection earlier this week, replied to the tweet saying that he plans to take his next paycheck in Bitcoin. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019m going to take my next paycheck 100% in bitcoin\u2026problem solved! <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sarasti?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Sarasti<\/a> can you help? <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/v4YdPZ0tYc\">https:\/\/t.co\/v4YdPZ0tYc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mayor Francis Suarez (@FrancisSuarez) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FrancisSuarez\/status\/1455562833006059528?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 2, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>This prompted Adams to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ericadamsfornyc\/status\/1456311827550384129?s=20\">respond<\/a> by one-upping his Republican colleague: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIn New York we always go big, so I\u2019m going to take my first THREE paychecks in Bitcoin when I become mayor\u201d. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The race to become the first politician in the U.S. to accept their salary in crypto is indicative of the friendly rivalry between NY and Miami to become the leading crypto hub in America. After he won the Democratic nomination for Mayor in June, Adams promised in his victory speech that NY would become the \u201ccenter of Bitcoins\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMiami, you had your run,\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-11-03\/mayor-elect-eric-adams-to-explore-nyc-coin-similar-to-miami-s?utm_content=business&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;cmpid=socialflow-twitter-business\">Bloomberg<\/a> radio on Wednesday, Adams vowed to \u201clook at what\u2019s preventing the growth of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in our city.\u201d He also indicated plans to follow Suarez\u2019s footsteps with the creation of MiamiCoin. <\/p>\n<p>In that scheme individuals use Stacks, a smart contracts and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lication layer built on Bitcoin, to mine MiamiCoin, with 30% of the revenue going back to the city to fund public projects. The remaining 70% of revenue can be locked to earn rewards in Bitcoin and Stacks. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHe has MiamiCoin that is doing very well \u2014 we\u2019re going to look in the direction to carry that out.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>NY has some of the strictest crypto exchange rules in the US. NY-based crypto analyst <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/stephenchen\/\">Stephen Chen<\/a> from Inflation Hedge Coin told Cointelegraph that he hopes the new Mayor Elect\u2019s support will see some more pro-crypto amendments to the 2015 BitLicense regulations. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Read more: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Crypto at the polls: Eric Adams wins NYC mayoral race<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>New York introduced the controversial BitLicense regulatory regime in June 2015, which has been criticized for being hostile to crypto. The BitLicense applies to crypto organizations involved in transferring, buying, selling, exchanging or issuing crypto. <\/p>\n<p>NY residents are only legally allowed to buy and sell tokens from registered organizations.
