{"id":363511,"date":"2021-11-06T16:46:15","date_gmt":"2021-11-06T13:46:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/uber-exploring-dispatching-yellow-cabs\/"},"modified":"2021-11-06T16:46:15","modified_gmt":"2021-11-06T13:46:15","slug":"uber-exploring-dispatching-yellow-cabs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/uber-exploring-dispatching-yellow-cabs\/","title":{"rendered":"#Uber exploring dispatching yellow cabs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Uber exploring dispatching yellow cabs<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>After all but killing New York City\u2019s taxi business, Uber is now exploring the possibility of  dispatching yellow cabs, according to documents reviewed by The Post.<\/p>\n<p>An Uber executive has lobbied Taxi &amp; Limousine Commission chief Aloysee Heredia Jarmoszuk on the idea\u2019s \u201cpotential,\u201d according to a September <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/assets\/elobbyist_search\/pdf\/CPR466263.pdf\">city lobbying disclosure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The executive, Josh Gold, is an ally of Mayor de Blasio and a former lobbyist for the well-connected Hotel Trades Council.<\/p>\n<p>No details of his discussion with Jarmoszuk were provided in the filing. Gold, a public policy and communications director at Uber, declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers took about half a million yellow taxi rides per day, until 2014, when Uber and Lyft started to eat their lunch. Low supply and high demand mean skyrocketing fares \u2014 and thousands of daily riders ditched the apps for yellow cabs, according to the TLC data.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, New Yorkers taking Uber or Lyft to JFK Airport have griped at fares well above $100. Yellow taxis have a fixed rate of $52 to or from Manhattan and JFK. Intra-borough rides on the meter are sometimes just half of an Uber or Lyft ride when prices for the app-based rides \u201csurge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New York Taxi Workers Alliance leader Bhairavi Desai told The Post her 25,000-member union, which includes Uber and Lyft drivers, would \u201cremain open-minded\u201d to the idea of Uber-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>ted hack hails.<\/p>\n<p>The financials of the potential arrangement are unknown, including whether the app would get a cut of cab rides it dispatches. Desai believes Uber dropped yellow cabs once enough of its cars were on the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur thing is, you have to protect full-time work. Whether it\u2019s yellow-cab drivers or Uber and Lyft drivers, we want to see standards lifted for all the drivers,\u201d she told The Post on Wednesday night outside City Hall, where a cabbie hunger strike had just ended.<\/p>\n<p>A TLC rep sent the following statement: \u201cAs a regulatory agency, the TLC meets frequently with all its Licensees to discuss ideas, individually and including during our monthly Taxi Working Group convening.
