There\u2019s just one thing that\u2019s bothering you: the notch. But with the right outlook and a few tweaks, you can comfortably enjoy your new Apple-branded slab of aluminum. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Extending_the_Display_Into_the_Bezel\"><\/span>Extending the Display Into the Bezel<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>First, a thought exercise. Rather than thinking of the notch as an imposition on your screen real estate, consider that the display is instead an imposition on the bezel. In time, you probably won\u2019t even notice it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Full-Screen_Apps_Ignore_the_Notch\"><\/span>Full-Screen Apps Ignore the Notch<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Any apps that you use in full-screen mode (or apps that use full-screen mode by default, like <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s) will automatically hide the notch. Content is displayed below the menu bar and a black border will appear at the top of the screen. In that case, nothing will be hidden from view by the notch since the developer will have made sure content isn\u2019t displayed here. This is an opt-in process and even Apple\u2019s built-in apps like Safari currently only scale below the notch.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"You_Can_Scale_Busy_Menu_Bars_If_Necessary\"><\/span>You Can Scale Busy Menu Bars If Necessary<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Some apps have busy menu bars with more than the usual File, Edit, and View options running along the top of the screen. Many will receive updates to account for the new notch, but some older apps may not. This means that widescreen content (whether it\u2019s 16:9 or a cinematic aspect ratio like 1.85:1 or 2.39:1) will ignore the notch completely. This is good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> if you plan on using your MacBook Pro to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">watch movies<\/a> or TV content.<\/p>\n<p>As is the case with full-screen apps, a black bar will instead be shown effectively extending the bezel down to your content.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_Apps_to_Hide_the_Notch_Completely\"><\/span>Use Apps to Hide the Notch Completely<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you find the notch distracting, you can effectively hide it using a selection of apps. Just like full-screen mode, works using a black background to your wallpaper. Thanks to Apple\u2019s excellent mini LED screen, the notch is basically invisible in most conditions owing to its impressive 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/topnotch.app\">TopNotch<\/a> is a free app that modifies your wallpaper, with a toggle for adding rounded corners to the \u201cusable\u201d space on the screen. This hides the notch completely, with menu bar items displayed in white.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-765900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/macbook_pro_topnotch.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"TopNotch app hides the MacBook Pro notch for free\" width=\"650\" height=\"75\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/goodsnooze.gumroad.com\/l\/nASbe\">Forehead<\/a>\u00a0works in largely the same way, with more options for customizing the rounded corners (and the ability to simulate the notch on older Macs). Developer Jordi Bruin allows users to name their price (starting at \u20ac0).<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.publicspace.net\/Denotchifier\/index.html\">De-Notch-ifier<\/a> is a paid $9.95 app with a 14-day trial that allows for greater customization compared with TopNotch and Forehead. You can pick specific menu bar colors, use different settings for light and dark macOS themes, and the app has full support for dynamic wallpapers.<\/p>\n<p>We recommend TopNotch as a good starting point since it\u2019s free and works like a charm. Whichever you choose, these apps do such a good job of hiding the notch that you might wonder why Apple didn\u2019t employ this technique to begin with.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cant_Live_With_It_Consider_a_Different_MacBook\"><\/span>Can\u2019t Live With It? Consider a Different MacBook<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you can\u2019t do it and decide that a notch just isn\u2019t for you, Apple still currently makes notebooks that don\u2019t include a notch. Not only does this rid you of the notch, but it also provides a lot more screen real estate. To maintain a similarly high pixel density to MacBook with Retina display, aim for something like a 27-inch 4K display.<\/p>\n<p>You may also be interested in an ultra-wide or super ultra-wide monitor if you have the desk space.
