All good things must come to an end, but before they do, they\u2019ll get one last update<\/a>. Google\u2019s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are slated to receive one final \u201csunset\u201d update sometime in early 2022, even though they recently passed their final guaranteed update<\/a> in October.<\/p>\n

Given that there are 10 newer Pixel models still available to choose from (like the Pixel 6), it\u2019s not surprising to learn that Google phased these two out back in 2020 or that they just reached end of life<\/a>. New updates now exclude the devices from the list of eligible devices.<\/p>\n

The Pixel 3 and 3XL were also included in the recent Android 12 rollout, despite the fact they\u2019re phased out, which is nice for those who still own them. They are, however, left off the list of devices that\u2019ll be eligible for Android 12L<\/a>, but you will see the Pixel 3a and 3a XL on there.<\/p>\n

Why doesn\u2019t Google just push that final update now, though? The company is likely using the few extra months to work out the maximum number of software issues. Given that it will be patching bugs and likely even security vulnerabilities, taking some extra time is probably a good thing.<\/p>\n

Google still has yet to formally announce a specific date for the Pixel 3 and 3XL\u2019s final software update beyond the vague Q1 2022. We will update this post once we learn more, though.<\/p>\n
